For the final battle, you will be facing a morphed monster called an Umbral Beast.

Battle Preparations

Replenish your resources

Since this is the last battle, make sure you replenish your battalions, as well as repair any weapons needed.

Study the enemy's abilities

The Umbral Beast is not something you should underestimate. Take the time to learn its abilities and how you will counter them, especially because you need your weaker units to survive.

*The Phantoms are illusions of Aelfric that the Umbral Beast feeds off from. 1-3 copies spawn in different tiles at the center of the map each turn. Defeating them gives you a Concoction, a necessity to survive in this battle.

Tips and Tricks

Take care of the illusions swiftly

The Umbral Monster feeds off the illusions' HP so make sure to them out immediately, or your efforts will be in vain. You can use Byleth or Balthus to end them in one hit.

Distribute the concoctions

This battle asks you to play defensively. Since Linhardt is the only viable healer on your team, make sure to distribute the concoctions you get from the illusions to the team, especially to weaker units like mages and archers.

We recommend having Byleth defeat the illusions so they gain hold of the concoctions, and using the Convoy and Trade features to supply your units.

Use Gambits to break the monster

Unleash your units' gambits to break down the monster's barriers. You do not need to break all 9 of them, 2 or 3 is enough, and then you can use heavy attacks to finally deal damage. Try to do this with least turns as possible before it uses Umbral Surge, which restores all of its barriers.

Use gambit to also draw attention from weaker allies who cannot have low HP on any turn, or else they are at the risk of being wiped off the map.

Beware of Umbral Surge

Every 2 turns, the beast will use Umbral Surge a Staggering Blow which deals up to 25% damage to all units on the map, which blows a big deal of damage to weaker units. Since the AOE is the whole map, this is unavoidable and the best way to combat this is to prepare for it. This ability also causes units to teleport to random places in the map. Make sure to regroup immediately.

The only one good thing this does is that it also damages the illusions, so it is one way to help you take them out quickly.

Chapter 7 - After the Battle

You have now reached the end of Cindered Shadows. You can return to the main game campaign to see the features you have unlocked.

  • New quests and paralogues (once you have recreuited the Ashen Wolves students)
  • Rewards (via DLC supplies in your Personal Quarters): Chalice of Beginnings, 10,0000 pts Renown
