This is a guide to Abilities in Fire Emblem: Three Houses (FE3H). Here we will show how to learn Abilities, what they do, and how to equip them!
List of Contents
Abilities give characters different bonuses and properties. They can add stats, or add experience gained, or allow certain attacks and spells to have unique effects. They also sometimes only come into effect if certain conditions are met.
There are three types of abilities:
Personal abilities are abilities unique to a particular unit, and they cannot be changed. A character will always have their unique Personal Ability equipped throughout the game. Check out our personal ability page for more info.
Each class has their own abilities attached to them. As long as a unit has a class equipped, they automatically have those abilities. You can see what abilities each class gives in the Certification menu, or the Ability menu.
Check out our class ability page for more info.
Class Abilities
As characters level up skills or master classes, they learn abilities that they can choose to equip. These abilites stay in a pool that you can select from for each character, and once you obtain them, they can be selected for that character at any time.
Each class comes with an attached set skills. When you change classes, you lose that class's set of skills and get a new one.
When you level up skills, whether it be through combat, instruction, or tutoring, you may gain new abilities related to that skill. Raising your skill in Lance, for example, might get you Lance Prowess, which gives a bonus to your stats when equipping Lances.
When you master a class, you gain a new ability. This ability is not attached to your class, but rather put into your ability pool, and you can choose to equip it.
You can equip abilities in the Inventory menu. Normally, the first abilities you gain will be automatically equipped, and any new ones will go into the pool. If you were not aware, you could have good abilities for certain builds that remain unused, so be sure to check the Ability Menu when you gain new abilities.
From here, you can also see a unit's personal ability and class abilities, as well as get more information on all abilities including ones in the pool.
