Back to IDLE's Roots is a side quest in Mario & Luigi: Brothership that can be started on Desolatt Island after completing Merrygo Island. Read on for a full walkthrough of Back to IDLE's Roots, including its location, unlock requirements, and rewards.

The mother of one of the IDLE kids is worried about her child. Return to IDLE's home island, and give her an update to ease her fears.

Unlocked After Completing Merrygo Island

Merrygo Island

After you complete Merrygo Island, you will be able to find this side quest on Desolatt Island. Talk to the Pink Concordian Mother at the Village in order to start Back to IDLE's Roots.

If this side quest doesn’t appear for you after you return to Shipshape Island from Merrygo Island, you may need to progress the story a little bit.

Talk to the Purple Concordian

MLB Purple Concordian

Near the Blue Pipe on Desolatt Island, talk to the Purple Concordian to start the quest. She’ll ask you to help her find her Old Brooch.

Desolatt Island Location Guide

Head to the Residence

MLB Residence

Head north to the green building, or also known as the Residence, and talk to the Yellow Concordian on the second floor. After a short cutscene, the Yellow Concordian will drop the Old Brooch somewhere on the ground floor.

Search for the Old Brooch Inside the Building

MLB Old Brooch Location

Inspect the glowing scraps on the ground floor to find the Old Brooch. Its exact location will be at the northeast corner of the area.

Return to the Purple Concordian

MLB Old Brooch Purple Concordian

Once you have the Old Brooch, return to the Purple Concordian. A cutscene will play and the quest will be completed.

Super Mushroom and Candy

Reward Description
Super MushroomSuper Mushroom x2 Restores 60 HP
CandyCandy x2 Restores HP and BP by 30%.

After completing Back to IDLE's Roots, the Purple Concordian will reward you with 2 Super Mushrooms and 2 Candies.
