Status ailments in Mario & Luigi: Brothership can disrupt the moves of the characters affected or cause additional damage. Read on for a list of all status ailments in the game, their effects, and tips on how to cure status ailments and prevent them from affecting Mario and Luigi.
List of Contents
Status | Effect |
---|---|
Trip | The affected character falls down and cannot dodge, counter, or contribute to attacks until it’s their turn. |
Dizzy | Dizzy characters are not able to dodge or counter until the effect is removed. They may also not be able to move on their turn. |
Burn | A burned character loses HP every turn. |
Ice | An iced character will not be able to move until thawed. |
Glohm | A Glohmed Mario or Luigi prevents them from using attack combos, Bros. Attacks, and Luigi Logic. Glohm is inflicted by Glohm enemies. |
Down | Upon reaching 0 HP, a character will be downed and can no longer participate in the battle unless revived. If both Mario and Luigi are downed, it results in a game over. |
Status ailments can affect enemies as well as Mario and Luigi. Certain enemies have the ability to inflict status conditions on Mario and Luigi when they land an attack.
If you want Mario and Luigi to be able to inflict status conditions, create and equip status-inflicting Battle Plugs such as the Dizzifying Attack, Fiery Attack, or Icy Attack Plugs. Combining some of these plugs can also increase your damage output.
The Refreshing Herb is an item that you can use in battle to cure most status ailments. Refreshing Herbs can be purchased at item shops.
Battle Plug | Effect |
---|---|
Auto Herb | When you gain a status effect, will automatically use a Refreshing Herb. |
Having the Auto Herb Battle Plug equipped will automatically use a Refreshing Herb if Mario or Luigi gets affected by a status condition. This frees you from having to dedicate a turn to using an item.
The Auto Herb Plug can be crafted once you unlock the ability to create Battle Plugs. This requires 15 Sprite Bulbs to create.
A tripped character may be able to recover before their turn if attacked. Unfortunately, that means that the tripped character will have to take damage.
The Glohm status ailment has a 50% chance of being cured when using a Refreshing Herb, but for a guaranteed Glohm cure, you need to use an Ampberry.
To revive a downed brother, you can use either a 1-Up Mushroom, which restores 50% of the target’s HP, or a 1-Up DX, which restores the target’s HP back to full. The Auto 1-Up Plug can be equipped if you want this to happen automatically.
Status ailments inflicted on Mario or Luigi will only last for the battle they were inflicted in and will disappear upon either fleeing the battle or defeating the enemy.
When faced against enemies that can inflict status ailments, make sure to always dodge or counter instead of doing an Emergency Guard. Status conditions cannot be blocked by Emergency Guard.
Battle Plug | Effect |
---|---|
Surefooted Guard | Prevents the effects of Trip and Dizzy. |
To prevent Mario and Luigi from the status effects Trip and Dizzy, you can equip the Surefooted Guard Battle Plug. This Battle Plug can be crafted immediately once you unlock the ability to create Plugs and requires 15 Sprite Bulbs.
Battle Plug | Effect |
---|---|
Temperature Guard | Prevents the effects of Burn and Ice |
The Temperature Guard Battle Plug blocks the status conditions Burn and Ice if equipped. This Plug can be obtained as you progress through the story.
