List of Contents
While on Shipshape Island, interact with the Big Cannon—the large, yellow cannon on the east side of Shipshape Island.
You will look out towards the ocean through the cannon’s scope, allowing you to see any nearby islands. You can use the L Stick to observe your surroundings.
Zoom in on any nearby islands by pressing the A button to identify them. Once identified, Mario and Luigi can launch themselves to these new destinations to explore and investigate.
Once you obtain the Ocean Map, you can change the sea current that Shipshape Island will follow. Open your Ocean Map with the Minus (-) button, then move the cursor using the L Stick.
Press the A button to select the current you want to follow. Shipshape Island will continuously move following the current it’s in. You'll need to move to different currents to be withing viewing (and launching) distance to other islands.
You will be notified once you’re approaching a new island. Any new islands in range will also be sparkling on the mini-map at the upper left corner of the screen.
This is your cue to head to the Big Cannon. Look through the scope, and target any island-looking shapes to discover the unknown island.
Once you’ve completed an island and linked it to Shipshape Island, you can fast travel to it using the blue pipe on the south side of Shipshape Island, right next to the save block.
You will obtain the Return Pipe as you progress through the game. This pipe lets you fast travel from anywhere by pressing ZR. This means you won’t have to go back to Shipshape Island every time you want to hop between islands.
Take note that you can only fast travel to islands that have been linked to Shipshape Island as well as Shipshape Island itself.
