How to Get and Use Mounts

Override

Objectives
1
Sneak up on a mountable machine. The Hold to Override prompt will appear once it's within reach. You'll need the PSI Override to do this, which is unlocked by finishing The Womb of the Mountain.
2
Hold the override button until the bar fills up.
3
You'll be able to mount the machine once this is completed. Tapping X speeds it up and holding O slows it down.
4
A Call Mount prompt will be available once you have a mount. Using this will make your mount return to you.

In order to have the ability to override and mount machines, you'll need to finish the quest The Womb of the Mountain. Doing so will unlock all mountable machines in the game.

Strider

You'll spend most of the game using these as mounts since they're the most common in the world. They can be overridden quickly and their speed will help you reach destinations quicker. They aren't very good in combat, however, as their kicks don't deal much damage.

Broadhead

Broadheads can travel at the same speed as Striders. They have much more use in combat, however, since they deal greater damage. You can even use them to charge at enemies and knock them back. They'll be harder to override, however, since they generally travel in large packs, so stealth will be needed.

Charger

Chargers are the best mounts in the game since they also have the same speed as Striders and can deal the most damage to enemies. Their kicks can clear smaller machines out in an instant. They also have the most health among the three mountable machines.
