This guide explains that Tear increases a weapon's ability to remove a machine's components in Horizon Zero Dawn. Read on to learn more about what tear improves and how it helps in combat.
Tear refers to your weapon's strength at removing components from machines. Having high Tear allows you to easily expose weak spots of machines or gain more resources from the parts that drop from them.
Keep in mind that Tear deals no damage. Tearing out a machine part does not damage the machine unless the ammo type fired also has a base damage stat above zero.
Larger machines generally have much higher health, which makes focusing on their weak spots important since damaging these components deals significant bursts of damage compared to just firing arrows at them.
This is where Tear is especially helpful since this makes it much easier to expose a machine's weak spots and open them up for accurate shots. You won't have to waste too many arrows trying to pick parts off, and this will lead to a simpler fight. There will even be encounters where machines will drop weapons from their bodies that you can use, like in the case of the Ravager.
Sharpshot Bows are long-range weapons that focus on accuracy and high damage over fast rates of fire. Improving your Tear with these weapons will let you pick off enemy parts from afar and immediately expose their weak points without having to risk getting up close.
Tear will also improve Tearblast Arrows, which is a type of ammo only used by Sharpshot Bows. These create huge sonic blasts that strip away machine parts with ease.
