Description | The only way for Aloy to access Thunder's Drum and learn its secrets is to challenge Aratak to a hunting competition. The winner gains control of the werak...and the pass to the mountain. |

World Location |
This quest is automatically given by Ourea in Ourea's Retreat, during your conversation with her in The Shaman's Path.
Objectives | |
---|---|
1 | Prove Yourself to the Werak. In order to make a claim for the position of Chieftain, Aloy must complete two of the following objectives: Clear out the Bandit Camp Complete a Trial at the Hunting Grounds Repair and Override the Tallneck Gather Pigments and Deliver them to Sekuli |
2 | Go to Song's Edge and Challenge Aratak. Once any two are completed, make your way to Song's Edge and challenge Aratak for his position. |
3 | Go to the Frostfigures and Talk to Ourea. Go to the Frostfigures to start the hunting challenge. Speak to Ourea when you're ready to begin. |
4 | Complete the First Challenge Before Aratak. Players will be given 7 minutes to reach the challenge site, complete the challenge, and release their balloon. For the first challenge, Aloy will need to kill 3 Lancehorns, 2 Longlegs, and 3 Redeye Watchers. |
5 | Complete the Second Challenge Before Aratak. Players will be given 9 minutes and 30 seconds to reach the next challenge site, complete the challenge, and release their balloon. For the second challenge, Aloy will have to kill 2 Freeze Bellowbacks. |
6 |
Make Your Way to the Third Challenge. The final challenge will give players 5 minutes to reach the challenge site. Use the ziplines to quickly make your way down the mountain and catch up to Aratak. |
7 | Kill the Machines. The final challenge will be interrupted by 3 rampaging Frostclaws. Team up with Aratak and kill the Machines. |
8 | Become the Werak Leader. Aratak will commend your skill and give you the win. Ourea will then give you the next quest, Firebreak. |
One of the easiest criteria to clear for challenging Aratak for the chieftan position is to repair and override of the downed Tallneck. If you have not yet done so, go ahead and complete this quest as it fulfills one of the objectives while making most of the new map, visible.
Another easy proving challenge to complete is the Snowchants Hunting Grounds. Players will only need to complete one challenge in order to fulfill the objective of this mission.
The Control Trial involving the use of the Stormslinger is one of the easier hunting trials to complete at this location.
Snowchants Hunting Grounds: Video Walkthrough and Tips
While more difficult than the Tallneck and Hunting Ground objectives, clearing the Stone Yield Bandit Camp in the Cut will reward players with the new Forgefire DLC weapon.
On top of fulfilling the objective and a new weapon drop, players can also get +2 Bluegleam and a Pigment by exploring and looting the camp itself.
To finish the challenge quickly, players can use a Shadow Blast Sling or Lodge Blast Sling full of damage modifications to essentially two-shot the groups of small machines in the area.
Instead of trying to exploit the weaknesses of the various Lancehorns, Longlegs, and Redeye Watchers, players can use the full-damage Blast Sling to kill them rather quickly and efficiently.
This challenge only needs Aloy to kill the two Freeze Bellowbacks. Before you begin, make sure to use a Shadow Ropecaster or Lodge Ropecaster to tie down the patrolling Sawtooth.
Doing so will allow you to focus on the Bellowbacks without having to dodge additional attacks from this lunging Machine.
To quickly deal with both Freeze Bellowbacks, use Hardpoint Arrows to rupture their Freeze Sacs. This makes them frozen, sluggish, and susceptible to normal arrow damage.
Once the Freeze debuff is active, pepper them with even more Hardpoint Arrows to quickly bring them down.
The third challenge of this trial will be aborted due to the appearance of 3 Frostclaw Machines. When the cutscene first ends, allow Aratak to take the brunt of the assault while you focus on killing one of the Frostclaws.
The quickest and easiest way to deal with the Frostclaws is to rupture their Freeze Weak Points. Use Hardpoint Arrows to destroy the sacs on each of its shoulders or the freeze unit located on its belly.
Note: To maximize the Freeze duration on each Frostclaw, make sure to rupture each weak point only when the debuff ends. This allows you to extend the debuff duration for 2 full lengths before there are no more weaknesses to exploit.
