DPS units in Gundam UC Engage are offensive mobile suits whose main job is to deal damage and take out opponents. Read on to learn more about how DPS units work, what kinds of buffs DPS units need, and more!

One thing all DPS units have in common is that they deal plenty of damage. Generally speaking, the more damage a DPS unit deals, the better they are in that role.
DPS units typically deal damage through their three weapons, which benefit from the buffs they have access to, such as damage buffs, accuracy, crit rate, critical ATK, or statuses like Bullseye and Assault.
This is not always the case, however, as some units rely more on spamming their EX skills as their primary source of damage, and some units deal unique forms of damage called "gray damage".

Most UR mobile suits have 3 weapons, and all of them have EX skills too. What makes or breaks a unit is the buffs it has access to and the quality of these buffs.

The most important thing to look out for when it comes to DPS units is buffs to their damage cap. The lack thereof is actually the reason why so many units that were once on top of the meta have fallen off drastically, such as the Zeta Gundam. These essentially increase the maximum amount of damage a unit can deal. The default damage cap is set to 99,999, so every weapon hit or EX skill can only deal up to the said amount of damage.
Currently, the standard for DPS units is that they come with a 200,000 damage cap buff, which means that these can deal up to 299,999 damage with each weapon hit or EX skill. That amount is 3 times larger than the maximum damage a unit could deal without a damage cap buff.

Critical strikes have become incredibly powerful thanks to the added damage from crits now being counted as a separate instance of damage, which allows units to artificially "bypass" the damage cap since they will be hitting for 2 instances of damage at the same time.
For example, the HMT Gundam can deal well over 150,000 damage even though it does not have any damage cap buffs and its attacks/EX skill caps at 99,999 damage since its regular attack and the bonus damage from the crit are treated as separate instances of damage.
While it is possible to just use the Gundam Ez8 to grant crit-related buffs to units, it is better to field strong DPS units with built-in crit so the Ez8's slot can be used on a different meta unit instead.

Damage buffs can come in beam, projectile, ranged, melee, EX, which improve their corresponding damage types. There are also just damage buffs that improve all kinds of damage. These are extremely important as they will be instrumental in getting units to reach their respective damage caps.
A mobile suit could have a damage cap buff of 1 million and 100% crit rate to go along with it, but without any damage buffs, it would still deal a lackluster amount of DPS.

Status buffs and debuffs, in the case of DPS units, are tools that mobile suits can use to bypass certain defensive measures or to increase the damage they deal. These come in the form of Bullseye, Assault, Unavoidable, Unguardable, and debuffs that increase the damage a unit takes.
It is important to have these tools, given how the things they counter have become so common, especially in Arena and endgame events.

On its own, accuracy really is not a very effective stat anymore, given how it only works on regular evasion and is useless against Absolute Evade. However, when paired with Bullseye, accuracy determines whether an attack will land against a unit with Absolute Evade.
Since Bullseye cancels out with Absolute Evade, the calculations made on whether an attack will land or not will be dependent on the attacker's accuracy and the defender's evasion.
On the other hand, Assault cancels out with Perfect Guard in the same way, and Assault units that crit are able to bypass a Perfect Guard unit's regular guard rate. That is why units like the Nu DFF cannot effectively deal with something like Purple-O, which benefits from both Perfect Guard and high guard rate, since the Nu DFF has a self-inflicted -200% crit rate debuff.
