CPAO Guide

Combat Power Augmentation Operation is a recurring event mode that favors specific kinds of mobile suits to score high. Read on to find out which mobile suits you should be using in CPAO and why.

Best Units to Use in Combat Power Augmentation Operation

High Hit-Count Is Key

If you've played Combat Power Augmentation Operation before, you might've noticed that your mobile suits aren't dealing nearly as much damage as they normally do. In fact, your units that typically deal hundreds of thousands of damage per second might be dealing single digit amounts of damage per second.

The reason behind your units' lack of firepower is how the enemies take massively reduced damage from all attacks, and they come with some decent evasion too. That said, the best way to deal with this is by using mobile suits with weapons that have high hit-counts. If each of your attacks get cushioned to deal only single digit amounts of damage, then it's better to increase the volume of your attacks.

Because of the event's damage gimmick, you don't need to worry about any damage or crit buffs at all. That being said, the category or role of your chosen MS does not matter at all.

You can check out your mobile suit's weapons by scrolling past their stats and skills in the MS screen when you long press their icon. Remember, the higher the hit count, the more damage they'll deal in this event. Look for weapons like Funnels and Machine Guns, though your options aren't limited to those.

Luckily, you don't need to deal too much damage to get the highest CPAO score rank possible, which is SSS. As long as you have the multi-hit mobile suits at around Custom Lv. 8 to unlock their Third Weapon and increase the level of their skills 1 and 2, they should all do well enough to secure your SSS score rank CPAO run and get you the upgrade materials you need. The UR Custom Ticket cost to upgrade an MS from Custom Lv. 1 to 8. is very affordable, even if you're running a little bit light on that resource, so you don't need to invest too much at all on your dedicated CPAO team.

Rarity Doesn't Matter (That Much)

Because of how damage works in this game mode, your options are not limited to UR units. You could essentially do well by using any mobile suit with extremely high hit counts, even if they're just R or SR-rarity units.

What does matter though is the amount of weapons they have. Mobile suits with only 2 weapons usually have terrible weapon rotations and waste plenty of time just wandering about instead of trying to deal damage. This is an issue plenty of R and SR-rarity units have, and is the reason why the only "meta" lower-rarity mobile suits all have 3 weapons. The bottom line is that only two things you need to look out for are high hit count weapons and 3 weapons instead of just 2, and their rarity does not matter.

For example, the SR-rarity Roswell Jegan is equipped with 3 weapons, one fires 10 shots at a time while another hits for a total of 12 times. That said, this MS is an excellent CPAO option. The same could be said for the SR Solari Zaku, which boasts 3 weapons, 2 of them are Zaku Machine Guns that each hits 10 times each time the Zaku pulls it out. On the other hand, there's the Gundam (Cucuruz Doan's Island Version), which have just 2 weapons and each of these only hit twice. This is an example of a bad lower-rarity unit to use for CPAO.

Use Accuracy Modules

Now that you've chosen your high hit-count units, look to add two SR-rarity AD-ASL-A modules of their corresponding type/color, which grant buffs that increase their accuracy. We mentioned earlier that the enemies you'll be facing have some evasion built into their kit, so you'll want as much accuracy as you could get to avoid missed attacks. Minimizing the number of times your units miss will be essential in scoring high. Given that this is a time-based stage, you don't want to waste any of your attacks on misses.

Pair Them With Pilots That Grant Accuracy

For the same reasons as above, you'll want to prioritize accuracy over anything when choosing the pilots of your mobile suits. While we usually prioritize ranged or melee sense when picking DPS units, EX gauge recovery for supports, and defensive buffs for tanks, none of that really matters in CPAO, and the only things that do are your multi-hit weapons and the accuracy to prevent wasted attacks.

For example, if you're using the Zaku I (Char) in this game mode for its high hit-count machine guns, you'll want to completely avoid its signature pilot as that version of Char Aznable does not grant any accuracy. Instead, use any pilot with compatible accuracy buffs like [C0189] Riddhe Marcenas.

We can't really provide you with a full list of the best pilots that grant accuracy since a pilot's value is dependent on whether or not an MS is able to benefit from its buffs. Additionally, there aren't really any pilots that grant ridiculous amounts of accuracy, and most pilots have accuracy buffs that add up to 20-30%.

If you've managed to form a team with multi-hit weapons, have provided them with accuracy modules, and have paired them with pilots that grant accuracy, you're bound to get an SSS score rank, even with minimal investments in your units.
