One of the most obvious differences between the two is how PvP refers to just Arena (and by extension, Elite Arena) whereas PvE refers to essentially everything else, from the Main Quest, Cooperative Battles, events, and more.
Although there are other game modes where players compete against one another, such as Clan Battle, players do not directly fight each other's teams, and instead compete for who performs best against the set PvE stage.

Naturally, PvE and PvP both have different metas, though these are not completely different and are actually quite similar.
At the time of writing, the best DPS units for PvE are units that can spam their EX skills, given how all Grade II UR units receive massive EX damage and damage cap buffs exclusively for PvE.
The PvP meta also has EX spammers at the top of the DPS rankings, but for different reasons. These units do not deal as much damage in Arena, but are still extremely valuable given how EX skill damage completely bypasses defensive statuses like Absolute Evade and Perfect Guard, which are very common in PvP.
The best defensive mobile suits are also very similar across PvE and PvP, but with key differences.
For example, both the Gundam F91 (Full Power) and The-O (Purple) are great across both PvE and PvP, but these tend to last much longer in PvE where counterpicks are far less common.
On the other hand, there are a few outliers, such as the Alex (Chobham Armor), which is extremely dominant in PvP due to its ability to reflect EX damage back at attackers. In PvE, however, this MS is not as effective given how EX spammers and heavy hitters are not nearly as common as opponents.

While the mobile suit meta across the two game modes is quite similar, it is the team comps that are a lot more noticeably different.
Strong PvE teams tend to have one Armored unit, debuffers, buffers, and a couple of top-tier DPS units.
In PvP, however, it is much more matchup dependent, given how each team you face comes with a different set of strengths to be wary of and weaknesses to exploit.
While debuffers are pretty much must-have picks in PvE, they are more of situational picks in PvP and are used only to counter certain units whose buffs need to be neutralized with debuffs.

Running just one tank works well in PvE, given how these tanks are easier to keep alive, and they are better at protecting their team since most PvE stages target the player's highest HP unit.
On the other hand, Arena is loaded with plenty of tank busters, and players can actually win when the timer expires, and their HP is higher than their opponents'. That said, players can field as many defensive units as they want, as long as it makes sense for the situation.

PvP rewards are limited to just Arena Medals, Diamonds, Recycle Pts, and an extremely rare Title for players who end a season at Rank #1 of Elite Arena.
Purely in terms of rewards, PvE is the better option as this is where most resources can be earned. Depending on the content, these can be everything from Diamonds, Gears, Gacha Tickets, Modules, Recycle Pts., Custom Tickets, Titles, mobile suits, pilots, fragments, pieces, and more.

Although the rewards in PvE are generally better than those in PvP, players should not focus on just one and should do all the content available to them to maximize rewards and account growth.
PvP battles do not cost any AP, and there are only 6 each day, so there is really no excuse to skip them.
