Time Your Attack Hits

Super Mario RPG - Deal More Damage
In Super Mario RPG Remake, timing your hits during an attack will increase that attack's potency which means you deal more damage than usual! You can do this by pressing the attack button as you land an attack.

In the remake though, a perfectly-timed button press means your attack will hit every enemy on the field which makes battles much easier and more exciting!

Time Your Specials

Super Mario RPG - Exclamation Mark

An exclamation mark appearing above Mallow's head

Each character in your party has different special moves that they can use to spice up the battle and each move has their own timing which can increase their damage than what they normally output! Some specials also heal or boost your allies stats in battle!

In the remake, it seems that there is an exclamation mark that will appear above the character to indicate when to press the button to increase a special's effect!

Block to Reduce Damage

Super Mario RPG - Block Damage
Blocking is a mechanic part of the game's Action Commands.

Like Timed Attacks where you press a button at the right moment during an attack, Blocking is done by pressing the A, B, X or Y button before an attack lands on a party member.

A block is successful when a star effect around the party member is shown when an attack hits. This will reduce the damage of the attack which is extremely helpful against strong attacks!

Timing Perfect Blocks Negate Damage

Super Mario RPG - Blocking Attacks Perfect.0
A Perfect Block can happen if the block is timed within a 5-frame window of the attack landing on a party member. Instead of reducing the damage of the attack, it will completely nullify the damage. You'll notice it when the shield appears and the damage dealt was zero.

One example would be perfectly blocking Boomer's Shaker, which instead of dropping a party member's HP to 1, the damage of Shaker is reduced to 0 and its Mortal Blow effect is negated.

Equip the Best Equipment to the Party

Utilize Triple Move Attacks

Triple Moves are powerful attacks unleashed by your entire party after filling up the Triple Move gauge. This mechanic is a new addition to the remake and was not present in the original game.

To execute the Triple Move, players must first fill up the gauge on the lower left corner of the screen by successfully timing action commands.

Move Changes Depending on Party Lineup
