Have Protection Against Status Ailments

Super Mario RPG Remake - Belome Using Scarecrow Funk

Accessories How to Get
・Receive from the Vault Keeper during the Shymore invasion in Mushroom Kingdom. Can also be bought in Rose Town or Seaside Town shop for 42 coins.
・Defeat Pandorite in Kero Sewers. Can also be bought in Rose Town or Seaside Town shop for 60 coins.

Belome is capable of inflicting Sleep and Scarecrow status ailments, so be sure to obtain and equip equipment that protects from these ailments such as the Wake Up Pin and Trueform Pin.

Since Mario will often have to alone himself when Mallow is eaten up temporarily by Belome later in the fight, it is best to equip Mario with the Wake Up Pin to prevent him from being affected by Sleep.

Best Equipment for Each Character

Attack Mainly with Mallow's Thunderbolt

Super Mario RPG Remake - Attack Belome with Thunderbolt

Special Move Effect
Thunderbolt
(Mallow)
・Press the button just before the bolt ends to increase the damage dealt by this move.

Belome is weak to Lightning, so Mallow's Thunderbolt can make quick work of him in this fight. Mario's attacks will also do the job, Mallow's is more efficient FP-wise, so we recommend having him as the main attacker.

Use Normal Attacks and Recover with Mario

Super Mario RPG Remake - Mario

It is recommended to have Mario deal damage while also being able to support with Mushrooms and Honey Syrup depending on the situation.

Take note that Mallow will be unable to act much later in the battle when gets eaten by Belome, so make sure to maintain a good amount of HP and FP.

Save Mallow from Belome

When you deal enough damage to Belome, he will eat Mallow. Mallow cannot act from inside Belome, so Mario will have to be the one to make the move party at this point.

Mallow can be saved by continuously attacking Belome. When enough damage has been done, he will be returned to your party's side.

Take note that Mario falling in battle while Mallow is inside Belome will result in a game over.

・Defeat Whuhoh at the Sunken Ship.
・Get in the underwater room behind barrels at the Sunken Ship.

All of Belome's special attacks are capable of causing Sleep, so it is important that you have equipment that can protect you from such status effect.

As long as you have the equipment or know how to regularly cure the Sleep status ailment, fighting Belome should not prove to be too difficult.

List of Status Conditions and How to Heal

Ignore Clones and Focus on Belome

Super Mario RPG Remake - Focus on Belome

Focus on defeating Belome over the clones. He is capable of summoning clones of your active party members and defeating these clones will only lead to more being summoned.

Of all the characters that can be cloned, Mario is usually the least dangerous. The next least threatening clone that you can deal with is Peach because of her ability to heal Belome.

Inflict Fear with Bowser's Terrorize

Super Mario RPG Remake - Terrorize Used on Belome

Special Move Effect
Terrorize
(Bowser)
・Rotate the left stick to increase the damage dealt by this special move.

Belome can be affected by Fear, so have Bowser use Terrorize on him to reduce damage to your party members and increase damage dealt to him!

Having this special move used regularly will make it much safer to fight Belome.

Use Normal Attacks

Super Mario RPG Remake - Normal Attacks on Belome

Belome does not have any weaknesses, so you can proceed with just using normal attacks when fighting him. When Belome is affected by Fear thanks to Bowser's Terrorize, he should be easy enough to deal with.

Whenever no healing or recovery is needed during a turn, you can have Peach join in attacking Belome with normal attacks too.

Belome Attacks

Scarecrow Funk

Belome can cast Mushroom status on through Scarecrow Funk, locking you out from using Attacks and Items temporarily.

You can effective protect yourself from this status effect by having the Trueform Pin equipped. This accessory can be found before Belome within the Kero Sewers as a drop from Huhwhat.

Cleansing Juice may also be used, but oftentimes Mallow will be unable to cure Mario with the item since he tends to be inside Belome when Scarecrow Funk is used.
