Choice Affects Which Ending You Get

Choice Result
Release Elpis
(Canon Choice)
Grace types in "Hope" to unveil the vials containing Elpis. It is used to cure Leon's T-virus syndrome while triggering the boss fight against Victor Gideon.

Allows you to unlock the true ending of RE9.
Destroy Elpis Grace types in "Destruction", triggering the self-destruct sequence of the ARK facility. Leon helps Grace escape but he dies at the hands of Zeno.

Choosing to Release Elpis will cause Grace to release the vials of Elpis which she later reveals to be an antiviral cure. Zeno loses his powers (and is later killed) after he injects himself with Elpis while Leon's T-virus syndrome is cured.

Choosing to Destroy Elpis will have Grace start the ARK facility's self-destruct sequence. Leon helps her escape but he gets left behind to fend off Zeno. Ultimately, Leon dies at the hands of the superhuman while Grace watches both Leon and Zeno get engulfed by the exploding facility.

Should You Release or Destroy Elpis?

Release Elpis to Get the Canon Good Ending

If you want to view the true canon ending of Resident Evil Requiem, make sure to choose Release Elpis when prompted by the ARK facility while playing as Grace. It allows you to fight the true final boss of the game while also netting you the trophy, Hope and Requiem.

How to Get the Good Ending

Destroy Elpis to Get the Bad Alternate Ending

While there isn't a trophy for unlocking the bad ending, players may still want to see it due to the shock factor that is Leon's death scene. If you do want to view an alternate timeline where Leon dies, then make sure to choose Destroy Elpis when prompted during the endgame.
