Shadow Ghost, also known as The Girl, is the first boss you can encounter in Resident Evil Requiem (RE9). Learn how to beat her and see the boss fight tips in this guide!
List of Contents

You won't be able to beat Shadow Ghost in the first encounter at Care Center, as you have no gun at this point of the story. Simply solve the puzzle and restore the power to the door to escape her and progress.
If you get chased, you can run into the rooms with light, but you won't be able to stay on them for long as she will destroy the light once you get to certain progress.
| Walkthrough | |
|---|---|
| 1 | ![]() Shadow Ghost will appear in the Prep Room once you unlock and get inside Room 201. She will immediately chase you after the cutscene, but you can easily lose it by going to Room 203, the room where Grace first woke up. |
| 2 | ![]() Go back to the Prep Room and head to the Nurses' Station after the chase. Once there, move the cart close to the Tool Box above the cabinet to reach it. Note that moving the cart will create noise and attract Shadow Ghost, but you can hide under the small table at the corner and wait for it to leave the room. Tip: If you're on Standard Classic Difficulty, you can get an Ink Ribbon from a drawer by moving a corpse out of the way. |
| 3 | Climb the cart and get the Screwdriver from the toolbox once Shadow Ghost leave. You will need it to open the fuse box in Room 201. |
| 4 | ![]() Shadow Ghost will camp the hallway once you try to go back to Room 201 for the Fuse. Once she appears again, return to Room 203 and come out after she destroys the light. You can sneak your way back to Room 201 and throw a Glass Bottle to distract her away from the hallway. |
| 5 | ![]() Once you get to Room 201, open up the fuse box using the Screwdriver and grab the Fuse. A short cutscene will trigger after getting the fuse, spawning the Shadow Ghost from the ceiling of the room. |
| 6 | ![]() Sprint towards the door with a missing Fuse at the end of the hallway to the left of the Horse Statue. Place the Fuse to finish this area and play as Leon again. |

The Shadow Ghost that Leon killed at the first encounter will get revived and go down the Care Center Basement with Emily. You won't be able to fight her directly, but she will be killed later once you rescue Emily.

The final encounter will be at the Water Treatment Plant. It will be a different Shadow Ghost and is a lot more aggressive than in the first and second encounter.
You will need to restore the power by restarting the 3 power distribution units in the area to open the roof hatch. You can use the temporary lights in the area to keep it away or shoot it to immobilize it for a short time while trying to restore the power. You can then open the roof hatch afterward to bask Shadow Ghost in the sunlight and eventually kill it with your gun.
| Walkthrough | |
|---|---|
| 1 | ![]() Start by pressing the switch to the roof hatch. It won't open, it will mark the next objective on the map, making it a bit easy for you to track them. |
| 2 | ![]() Head down the lower floor to restore the power through the Power Distribution Units. Shadow Ghost will go to your direction immediately once you go down, but you can distract it away by throwing an empty glass bottle. |
| 3 | ![]() It's best to restart the first power distribution unit in the Storage Area as it is the easiest. Simply go to the direction of Shadow Ghost where she first spawned in after distracting her out of the way. Shadow Ghost will block the way to the lever once you get close, but you can immobilize her by turning on the light nearby. |
| 4 | You can go to the Chemical Treatment for the next power distribution unit. Its lever is heavy and it will take time for Grace to activate it. Throw a Molotov at Shadow Ghost to stun her momentarily and give you time to activate the lever. There should be a free Molotov on the cart close to the lever. |
| 5 | ![]() The last power distribution unit is located at the Control Room, but it's missing a lever. You can find the Crank Lever in the Filing Room, which is accessible in the current room you're in. |
| 6 | ![]() Shadow Ghost will throw you away from the power distribution unit, so exit the room first and lure her away to one of the lit up rooms. Once she takes the bait, return to the Control Room and place the lever to restore the power. |
| 7 | ![]() Head back using the elevator and try to open the roof hatch. Shadow Ghost will appear once again, but you can stop her on her tracks by opening the light pointing at the switch to the roof hatch. Open the roof hatch and shoot to kill her. Try not to waste the Requiem's bullet and use a different handgun. |
| Shadow Ghost Tips and Strategies |

|
|

The Shadow Ghost cannot go inside well-lit areas as it can hurt her, so try to go to them whenever you get spotted or chased by her. You can then explore again after she stops chasing you.

Crouch to walk slowly and quietly to avoid detection as Shadow Ghost reacts highly to sound. You should be able to move around in most areas without getting caught by crouching.

You can carry throwable glass bottles as Grace in the game. You can use them to distract Shadow Ghost as it goes to where the sound is. This should help you complete puzzles or pass through areas that might create noise.

You can momentarily stop Shadow Ghost on her tracks by throwing a Molotov on her. You should be able to obtain Molotovs during the second and final encounter against her.
