Resident Evil Requiem (RE9)

Endings Guide: How to Get All Endings

Add to Watchlist

Endings Guide

Resident Evil Requiem (RE9) has two different endings depending on the choice you make in the ARK facility. Read on to learn how to get all endings and see explanations of what happen in the hope and destruction endings of the game.

Spoiler Warning This article details events that happen during the two endings of Resident Evil Requiem. It will contain major story spoilers beyond this point!

How to Get All Endings

Ending Choices Ending Summary
Release Elpis Choosing to Release Elpis will trigger RE9's true ending. Leon gets cured of his T-virus strain, just in time to face off against the final boss, Victor Gideon.

Choosing this option will net everyone involved a good ending.
Destroy Elpis Choosing to Destroy Elpis will result in an alternate ending where the Elpis facility gets destroyed and Grace survives, but at the cost of Leon dying at the hands of Zeno.

Choose to Release Elpis to Get the True Ending

To get the True Ending of Resident Evil Requiem, make sure to choose the option to Release Elpis after Grace and Leon arrive back at the central console of the ARK facility (where Zeno is waiting). This will reveal the true nature of Elpis as an antiviral cure rather than a weapon.

By choosing this option, you'll be plunged headfirst into the true final boss fight of RE9. Prepare yourself for a showdown between the now cured Leon and the mutated Victor Gideon (whose phase 3 takes on a similar form to Nemesis in RE3).

Choose to Destroy Elpis to Get the Alternate Ending

To get the Alternate Ending of Resident Evil Requiem, make sure to choose the option to Destroy Elpis, instead. In this version of events, no one finds out about the antiviral properties of Elpis. While the ARK facility does get destroyed, Leon dies in the process (at the hands of Zeno).

All Endings Explained

Hope Ending Gives Everyone a Good Ending

By choosing to input the word "Hope" and releasing Elpis, Grace uncovers that it is an antiviral cure created by Oswell Spencer before he passed rather than a new bio-weapon like The Collections and Victor thought.

However, before she can reveal its true nature, Zeno injects himself with Elpis, "curing" himself of his superhuman powers. Now just a regular human, he's easily killed by the reappeared Victor Gideon. Grace injects Leon with a dose of Elpis, curing him and preparing him to fight Victor Gideon in the game's final boss fight.

After defeating Victor, Leon and Grace will be rescued by Chris Redfield's fellow BSAA agents (but he won't make an appearance). Leon, now free of the T-virus infection, will reveal to Grace that Emily can still be saved (since he didn't aim for any vitals).

In the end, Leon gets cured (which means he gets to appear in more games), Sherry Birkin also potentially gets cured thanks to Elpis, and Grace manages to save Emily. The game ends with Grace catching up with Leon over the phone, eventually closing with a shot of two pictures: one with Grace and Alyssa Ashcroft, and another with Grace and Emily.

Destruction Ending Kills Off Leon

By choosing to input the word "Destruction" and destroying Elpis, Grace, Zeno, and The Collections are left wondering if Elpis truly was a weapon like they initially thought. Instead, with the desctruction of the ARK facility, all data regarding Elpis is lost.

Naturally, Zeno goes on a rampage after he realizes that Grace triggered the self-destruct sequence of the ARK facility. However, before he can kill her, Leon intervenes with a hatchet to the neck. This gives Grace enough time to hop off the now collapsing central platform. Leon gets left behind, accepting that he either dies here or he succumbs to his T-virus infection.

The game ends with Zeno killing Leon as the facility collapses around them. Grace manages to escape and is rescued by the BSAA, but it's a hollow victory. In this ending, Leon dies, Sherry probably also succumbs to her T-virus infection, Emily stays dead, and Grace gets even more PTSD.
