Like Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, Dragon Quest 2 is expected to include three main difficulty settings, namely Dracky Quest, Dragon Quest, and Draconian Quest.
Each difficulty lets you decide how you want to experience and progress your adventure.
| Difficulty | Description |
|---|---|
| Dracky Quest | Your HP will never reach 0, meaning that you cannot die in the game. |
| Dragon Quest | Your character dies when reaching 0 HP. |
| Draconian Quest | Your character dies when reaching 0 HP. |
The Dracky Difficulty will not let your characters reach 0 HP, basically making your party immortal. Restoring items become impractical as there is no need to actually restore your HP from damage incurred from enemies.
We recommend playing on Dragon Quest or Draconian Quest mode for your first run. Dracky Quest will likely make battles too easy, removing much of the strategic tension from the early-game grind and late-game boss fights.
Dragon Quest mode should strike a good balance between challenge and accessibility, while Draconian Quest will satisfy those seeking an authentic, old game difficulty reminiscent of the original Dragon Quest 2.
Enemies deal less damage, and party recovery items and spells may be more effective. This mode is best for players who want to focus purely on the story without worrying about frequent wipes.
A balanced setting that mirrors the standard gameplay flow. EXP and gold remain at normal values, and enemies scale naturally as you explore each region. This is ideal for players who want to enjoy both the story and the traditional gameplay challenge.
Enemies hit harder, and resources like gold and EXP may be reduced. Bosses are expected to have enhanced HP and stats, making each victory feel earned. This is the mode for players who want to relive Dragon Quest II’s original punishing difficulty.
| How to Change Difficulty | |
|---|---|
| 1 | ![]() Open the menu and access the System Settings. |
| 2 | ![]() Select the Difficulty Settings option. |
| 3 | ![]() Choose the difficulty you want in the game. |
Difficulty settings are accessible by opening up the menu and selecting the System Settings. From there, players will likely be able to adjust difficulty mid-playthrough, letting them fine-tune their experience based on their party’s strength and progress.
