Windbraker Key A curious cloak by means of which one might fly—well, float—for just a little while. Lets you cross the river between the Dragon's Horns.
Echo Flute Key When this esoteric instrument is played near a sigil, its distinctive sound will echo straight back.
Rainbow Drop Key Required in order to traverse the waters on the other side of which lies the Dragonlord's Castle.
Celestial Skein Key Thread that's as delicate as morning dew. Give this along with the Subtle Shuttle to Don Calico to get the Flowing Dress.
Subtle Shuttle Key An item of cloth-making equipment so specialised that only the most skilled of weavers can work with it. Give this along with the Celestial Skein to Don Calico to get the Flowing Dress.
Moonshard Key Place it close to your ear to hear the soft whispering of the waves. Removes shoals blocking the Sea Cave entrance.
Star Sigil Key A yellow stone engraved with intricate patterns. Enables the replenishment of MP during battle.
Sun Sigil Key A red stone engraved with intricate patterns. Makes critical hits possible even with abilities in battle.
Moon Sigil Key A purple stone engraved with intricate patterns. Can cause spells to go critical in battle.
Water Sigil Key A blue stone engraved with intricate patterns. Enhances the effects of items used in battle.
Soul Sigil Key A green stone engraved with intricate patterns. Enables the use special spells and abilities in battle.
Eye of Rubiss Key A talisman imbued with Lady Rubiss's blessing. Gives you access to the Cave to Rendarak and the Hall of Hargon.
Misplaced Key Key A key left behind by a larcenous young man from Moonahan. Used in the story to open the Thief's Hideout.
Oomph Powder Misc Significantly increases attack power. Consumed upon use.
Tangleweb Misc Reduces a group of enemies' agility. Consumed upon use.
War Drum Misc A rousing instrument that boosts attack power.
Musk Misc A special scent used to lure monsters. It's certainly a special fragrance. Consumed upon use.
Dieamend Misc A rock capable of absorbing an attack that would be fatal, saving its owner's life.
Coagulant Misc Confuses all enemies. Consumed upon use.
Prayer Ring Misc A pious band that can be used to restore a small amount of MP. However, be warned: it's likely to break if called upon.
Chimaera Wing Misc Whisks you away to a previously visited settlement or dungeon. Consumed upon use.
Holy Water Misc Wards off weaker enemies. Consumed upon use.
Tombola Ticket Misc If you want to try your luck at the tombola, look out for these—they're just the ticket!

Item Types Explained

Item Type Explanation
Healing Items that recover the HP or MP of party members or restores their status.
Key Key Items are required to advance the story, solve puzzles, or make the game easier.
Miscellaneous Items with unusual or non-gameplay effects.
Seed Seeds are consumable items used to raise the stats of party members.

Each of the different types of items in Dragon Quest 2 has a distinct function. Most can be used in and out of combat, and a few are not meant to be used at all, instead playing a role in the story.

When your inventory is full, you can free up space by transferring items from your inventory to banks found in the locations listed in the table. It's best to store items that you'll only use in specific situations in banks and only withdraw them when needed.
