List of Contents
| Character Stats | Explanation |
|---|---|
| HP | The health of a character. Once depleted, the character is knocked out and can't participate in the battle. Restored by items, spells, and certain special effects. |
| MP | The resource needed to cast spells and abilities. Characters cannot cast spells or abilities if they're out of MP. Can be increased by consuming Seeds of Magic. |
| Strength | Determines a character's weapon damage output. Each party member differs in their Strength stat and gains upon leveling up. |
| Resilience | A character's physical toughness. In conjunction with Defence from equipment, it reduces the amount of physical damage taken in combat. |
| Agility | A character's speed in battle, and is used to calculate the turn order in combat. |
| Equipment Stats | Explanation |
| Attack | Derived from equipment, combined with Strength to increase physical damage dealt. |
| Defence | Derived from equipment, and reduces physical damage taken when combined with Resilience. |
Character stats determine the combat performance of each party member. In Dragon Quest 2, each party member has unique individual stat numbers and growth rates, which influence their role and specialty in combat.

During battle, you won't be able to access your items unless they are transferred into your party. Each party member will have their own inventory, so plan carefully who will be holding onto what before you transfer them.

You can find keys used to unlock doors scattered throughout the world. It's important to collect these immediately, not to be barred from progressing the story or exploration.
List of Keys and How to Get Them

Players can play the Tombola at Leftwyne, Moonahan, Rippleport, or Beran. This lottery allows you to win valuable prizes like the Loyalty Card which gives you a 25% discount on all shops.
Tombola Locations and How to Play

The best spot to EXP farm will be in the Tower of the Moon and around the Cave to Rendarak as these spots can spawn Metal Slimes and Liquid Metal Slimes to farm. While these need players to be around the mid-late game, these provide the best enemies to farm EXP on.
EXP Farm: How to Level Up Fast

The best way to farm Gold is to play the Tombola, and winning the Wizard's Staff from it, as selling it will net you 3000G. Fighting enemies like the Shamans and Gargoyles will net you the most Gold as they drop very valuable and expensive items for selling.
Money Farming Guide: How to Earn Gold Fast

As you continue your adventure, make sure to regularly check and upgrade your equipment to not fall behind on damage output or defense against stronger enemies. It's best to look and check for new armor in the weapons shop in new towns you visit, as well as treasure chests around dungeons.
Best Party Build and Equipment
| Seed | Stat Raised |
|---|---|
| Seed of Strength | Increases Strength 1-3 points (Physical Damage inflicted) |
| Seed of Agility | Increases Agility 1-3 points (Turn speed) |
| Seed of Resilience | Increases Maximum Defence by 4 (Physical damage taken) |
| Seed of Life | Increases Max HP by 4-6 points |
| Seed of Magic | Increases Max MP by 3-5 points. |
It's recommended to use seeds as soon as you can so that you get the immediate power boost.
The Prince of Midenhall benefits from Seeds of Strength the most, while giving the rest of the seeds to the Princess of Moonbrooke will let her be less squishy and more agile and powerful with her spells.
When and Who Should Use Seeds?

Changing the Misc. settings allows you to adjust the game to what works best for your playstyle.
| Settings | Changes to Make |
|---|---|
| Tactics | Choose which approach best suits your battle style or take a hands-on approach by choosing to Follow Orders, letting you control a character manually. |
| Short-Cut Commands | To make travelling in the open world easier, set field and recovery spells to your Short-Cut Commands. Some helpful spells are Holy Protection, to manage enemy encounters and Zin which revives a downed ally. |
| System Settings |
Battle Settings: You can change your Battle Speed here, letting battles go faster. Helpful Settings: Turning on the Objective Marker, Treasure Chest Locations, and Secret Spots can make exploration easier. Difficulty Settings: You can change your difficulty anytime from here. If you're stuck on an enemy, you can change your difficulty to Dracky and turn on Invincibility. Language Settings: Voice and Text language can be changed anytime here. |

You can customize your party's available spells and abilities in battle by choosing which skills they can't use in the Spells or Abilities Tab in the menu.
This will allow you to further adjust the composition of your team by giving them a limited loadout of spells and abilities.

Scrolls are a new addition to the HD-2D Remake. Using scrolls can allow your party to learn skills outside of their skill set at any level. Be careful when using these, since they are one-time use only and will be consumed after use.

Another new addition to the HD-2D Remake is Mini Medals. Mini Medals can be collected from anywhere, chests, pots, rocks, and even random tiles on the floor! Once you reach the Isle of the Monarch of Medals, you can exchange these medals for rewards with the Maharaja of Medals.
