A recommended piece of equipment to prepare before the fight against Dragonlord's Great-Grandson is the Rousing Ring, as it helps prevent your party from succumbing to sleep. It's also recommended to bring Care Rivière, as this can help protect your party’s spells from being sealed.
Once the battle begins, you can start by applying debuffs such as Sap. However, the Dragonlord's Great-Grandson may use spells that negate these effects, so be prepared to use Ripple of Disruption to remove his buffs and allow your party to reapply debuffs effectively.
All Debuffing Spells and Abilities
When you're ready to go on the offensive, use abilities that are effective against dragons. One example is Prince of Cannock's Dragon Slash, which should deal significant damage when it hits the Dragonlord's Great-Grandson.
If you have access to War Drum, use it to buff your entire party’s Attack. This should help you deal more damage against the Dragonlord's Great-Grandson.
In the second phase, the Dragonlord's Great-Grandson becomes vulnerable to Snooze. Have the Princess of Moonbrooke cast it, and equip the Duplic Hat to increase the chances of it landing.
Once you put the Dragonlord's Great-Grandson to sleep with Snooze, you can go on the offensive and use a Wild Side-boosted Dragon Slash. It’s recommended to use Focus Pocus beforehand so you can keep recovering MP, and so you can activate the Souped-Up Double Dragon Slash as well.
If you already have enough MP, you can skip using Focus Pocus, since it would require spending an extra turn. Wild Side combined with another strong attack should be enough to deal significant damage.
All Offensive Spells and Abilities
If the Dragonlord's Great-Grandson wakes up or if Snooze fails, use those turns to reapply buffs and debuffs. You can follow a similar strategy to the first phase by using Sap, and if it doesn’t land or is negated, use Ripple of Disruption to remove all of his buffs.
To find the Dragonlord's Great-Grandson, head to the Dragonlord's Castle and make your way to B7. You can go there as early as when you get the ship, but it's not recommended due to the high-level enemies. It's best to visit him in the late game or grind EXP first before entering the castle.

The Dragonlord's Great-Grandson will reward you with Erdrick's Sword when you visit him during the story. It's recommended that you don't skip this weapon, since it can be repaired and upgraded later on.
After getting the Sphere of Light and defeating him, the Dragonlord's Great-Grandson will upgrade Erdrick's Sword and Erdrick's Shield, turning them into the best sword and shield in the game.
Post Game Guide: Things to Do After Beating DQ2
The Dragonlord's Great-Grandson is the direct descendant of the main villain of DQ1, similar to how the playable characters are the descendants of the Hero in DQ1.
He also uses the same sprite as the Dragonlord, which can be surprising for people who played DQ1 and haven't talked to the Great-Grandson yet.
