The Prince of Midenhall boasts an exceptionally high Strength stat, making him a powerhouse in physical combat. To push his attack even further, use Seeds of Strength and teach him powerful abilities via scrolls.
While he also has solid HP and Defence, his Intelligence and Speed are notably low. Since he doesn’t use magic, Intelligence isn’t a concern, but his sluggish Speed means enemies will often act before him so consider boosting it with a Seed of Agility.

The Prince of Midenhall learns a large number of abilities, many of them Offensive and capable of doing direct damage. The Prince has few Recovery abilities available in his kit, necessitating support via items or friendly spells.
All Offensive Spells and Abilities
The Prince of Midenhall is the only party member that doesn't learn a single spell. This means that he purely relies on attacks, abilities, and items to deal damage or support the rest of the party in and out of battle.
That said, his exceptional physical and strength-related stats make him a peerless fighter in direct combat, with both standard attacks and ability strikes dealing high damage.
List of All Spells and Abilities
| Prince of Midenhall's Best Equipment | |
|---|---|
| Weapon |
Thunderbolt Blade
Sword of Ruin |
| Shield | Erdrick's Shield |
| Headgear | Erdrick's Helm |
| Armour | Erdrick's Armor |
| Accessory | Banishing Bell |
Note: This is generally the best equipment for this character, but there are some scenarios, like versus bosses, where a different build will be more effective.
The Prince of Midenhall works best as your main physical attacker and party leader. He can’t use magic, but he doesn’t need to as his sheer Strength and eventual access to the Erdrick’s Armor Set make him a durable powerhouse.
If you want to maximize his potential, focus on building him purely for offense. Abilities like Wild Side let him attack multiple times per turn. Though limited, abilities like Forebearance, Egg On, and Meditation allow the Prince to lend a small amount of support to himself and his companions.
How to Get Erdrick's Equipment Set
The protagonist of the game has no official canon name, and is simply known as the Prince of Midenhall in Dragon Quest 2 HD-2D Remake.

The promotional material for the game has designated the protagonist as Gawain from in-game screenshots. This may allude to his possible default name in the game.
