Farming near healing tiles is the most efficient way to gain early experience. These spots let your party recover HP and MP instantly, so you can battle endlessly without wasting items or teleporting back and forth at Inns!
The earliest you can encounter a cave with a healing tile is in Cave of the Lake found west of Gwaelin's Gate.

By mid game, you’ll start encountering Metal Slimes, rare enemies that give massive experience when defeated. They’re tricky to hit and often flee, but taking one down can skyrocket your party’s levels in no time.
Find Metal Slimes in the overworld near Dirkandor and Damdara.
Metal Slime Location and Farming Guide

As you reach the late game, stronger versions called Liquid Metal Slimes begin to appear. They’re even harder to defeat but reward far more experience, making them the ultimate targets for fast level-ups before the final battles.
You can farm these Liquid Metal Slimes in the Slime Island and in L5 of Passage to Rendarak.

Slime Island is a small, isolated island located just south of Moonbrooke, accessible once you obtain the Ship. The island is filled almost exclusively with slimes.
The Cave of Confusion and Citadel Tower serve as the ultimate post-game dungeons, packed with powerful enemies designed to net you much more EXP. They become accessible during post-game only, acting as a final grinding area before facing the additional bosses that await beyond the main story.
Citadel Tower is great for farming Liquid Metal Slimes while Cave of Confusion house powerful enemies that provide huge amounts of EXP!

A top early-game leveling spot is the B2 of Lake Cave. A nearby healing tile lets you restore HP and MP instantly, so you can grind efficiently. Watch out, though as venturing too far triggers a boss battle which you can't really defeat early on.

The Cave of Confusion is a safe, steady spot for gaining EXP from King Hydra. Although the EXP reward is much smaller compared to Citadel Tower's, the dungeon lets you explore and grind without worrying if the enemy will flee mid battle.
The Cave of Confusion is only unlocked if you managed to collect all 7 Living Memories.
