There are no official canon names for the party members in Dragon Quest 2 HD-2D Remake (DQ2). See what names you can give the main characters, what they're called in other media, and if you can rename them here.
List of Contents
| List of Default Names | |
|---|---|
| Prince of Midenhall | Gawain |
| Prince of Cannock | Caradoc |
| Princess of Moonbrooke | Peronel |
| Princess of Cannock | Matilda |
While there are no canon names for the party members of Dragon Quest 2, the game gives them default names if you don't give them a unique name at the start of the game.
This is the closest thing there is to canon names, but it should be mentioned that it is not official, and other names are still used in other Dragon Quest-related media other than their official titles.
| Names in the CD Drama | |
|---|---|
| Prince of Midenhall | Allen |
| Prince of Cannock | Conan |
| Princess of Moonbrooke | Nana |
| Names from Other DQ Games | |
| Prince of Cannock | Cookie, Princeton, Rickerd |
| Princess of Moonbrooke | Pudding, Princessa, Peronel |
| Princess of Cannock | Macaron |
This is a list of the characters' names in other DQ-related media. The closest names to being canon are from the CD Drama, since other media with the DQ2 characters don't have a name for the Prince of Midenhall.
However, it should still be noted that these aren't confirmed to be official since the names are always changing between their multiple appearances in other Dragon Quest media.
| JP Name Trick Default Names | |
|---|---|
| Prince of Cannock | Sigurd |
| Princess of Moonbrooke | Eileen |
| Princess of Cannock | Matilda |
These names are the default names of your party members if you did the Japanese Name Trick, which is starting a New Game and entering もょもと as your character's name.
Using this trick also automatically makes the Hero Level 48, so you start the game strong without having to grind at all.

Exclusive to the remake, players are now allowed to change their character names by speaking with the Priest in the Isle of The Monarch of Medals. You can do this as many times as you like without any costs or items.
You can access the Isle of the Monarch of Medals mid-game when you have the Ship from Rippleport.

You can also rename your party members on the Isle of the Monarch of Medals. This works just like changing the main character’s name
Your chosen name will not affect the game or its storyline. This is unlike in the case of Dragon Quest 1 where your name will dictate your starting stats.

In Dragon Quest 2 HD-2D Remake, you can not use the name Erdrick. Erdrick is the namesake of the Dragon Quest Trilogy, and is the name of the Dragon Quest I and II heroes ancestor.
