The Nu Gundam HWS is an anti-Rival Unit bruiser that performs well both offensively and defensively against mobile suits of this unit category.

Its defensive features include a 78% max HP buff, a team-wide 22% max HP buff, a 22% max HP heal on EX, as well as a 58% damage resistance buff. The rest of its defensive buffs are conditionally activated against Rival Units only.

So far, its skills appear to be better suited as a defensive support and tank hybrid, with its tanking ability not being too hard to beat. After all, any meta DPS unit can eat through huge amounts of HP if there aren't any unique gimmicks, extremely high resistances, or status effects to stop it or slow it down.

It'll be somewhat difficult to kill for non-Rival Units due to its big HP pool and occasional heals, but that's it.

Against Rival Units, the Nu Gundam HWS should be able to tank quite effectively, as it benefits from 120% beam and projectile damage resistance buffs, on top of the defensive and healing buffs we've discussed above.

This makes it great against Rival Units in general, but the conditional bonuses don't stop there.

Deals Huge Amounts Of Damage To Rival Units

Nu Gundam HWS EX Skill

The Nu Gundam HWS' EX skill hits an enemy unit for 1385% ATK, but deals another instance worth the same amount if the target is a Rival Unit.

This MS also deals 58% more damage (of all types) to Rival Units, so both its weapons and EX skill deal bonus damage against MSs of the said unit category.

Amuro Ray, the HWS's signature pilot, grants a good amount of ranged sense, but even more when the HWS is attacking Rival Units.

Works Well With and Against The-O (Purple)

The-O Purple

The reason why the Nu Gundam HWS is so popular in PvP is that it is great against the game's most popular unit: The-O (Purple).

One of the very few weaknesses of The-O is EX skill damage, and since The-O is a Rival Unit, it'll take two instances of enhanced EX skill damage from the Nu HWS.

Using the HWS alongside The-O also works very well, since it is able to buff The-O's max HP while also occasionally healing it too.

The Nu Gundam HWS can be obtained via the Extreme Limited Mobile Suit Assembly Banner for 300 Diamonds per pull, and 3000 Diamonds for every 10 pulls.

Like with many signature pilots of today's best units, Amuro Ray is essentially a must-have as he grants key buffs to both the Nu Gundam HWS' offense and defense. The buffs he grants include ranged sense, accuracy, max HP, resistance, and conditional ranged sense buffs against Rival Units.

Not having Amuro Ray on board this MS means that it'll compromise on either offense or defense in favor of the other, which is not ideal for a bruiser like the HWS.

Only the Nu Gundam HWS comes with a kit that is designed to counter Rival Units. The answer to this question depends on what you intend to gain out of fielding a similar MS.

The most similar unit is perhaps the Quin Mantha, as both these units are high HP bruisers with good but not great defense, and both units are good against The-O (Purple).

If you're looking for an Armored unit that's better at defense, The-O (Purple) is probably your best bet.

If it is EX skill damage you are looking for, there aren't really any meta ones at the time of writing, but that should change in the near future when more powerful EX-reliant mobile suits are released.
