Amuro Ray Review

Amuro is a powerful pilot in the sense that all the buffs he grants are potentially very powerful, and the conditions to activate them aren't too uncommon. He grants two stacking 15% ranged sense buffs on dealing damage that each max out at 150%. These two are granted to Red-type and Bombardment mobile suits. The only two mobile suits that can make use of both these buffs are the Psycho Zaku and the Full Armor Engage Gundam A Plan, and only the latter can get good value out of this since it can fully max out the stacks less than halfway through using its weapon 2. Luckily, these buffs are substantial, and you could get good value with just one. That said, this MS is a usable substitute for any Red or Bombardment unit with multi-hit weapons that can quickly get to max stacks.

Amuro also grants a 16% crit rate to Gundam-Type and High Mobility mobile suits. These are two of the most common unit category tags, so it's not too difficult to find a mobile suit that can benefit from both buffs, which grants a combined 32% crit rate. Crit rate is extremely valuable these days considering the arrival of the crit rework, so consider pulling for this pilot if you need to substitute pilots for High Mobility Gundam-Type units that could make good use of crit.

There are a ton of mobile suits that benefit from just 1, 2, or 3 of Amuro's potent buffs, and the ones that make the most sense are all listed in the Alternative Mobile Suits section of this pilot analysis page. However, where he truly shines is in his signature mobile suit.

Amuro grants the RX-78F00 HMT Gundam High Mobility Type all 4 of his buffs. It'll benefit from all 300% of the stacking ranged sense early into the match, considering that it has multi-hit weapons and can get all stacks before it's finished using its 2nd weapon. Amuro's crit buffs also bring this unit's crit rate over 100% and make it have a 68% crit rate buff when below the 100% HP threshold instead of just 36%, greatly improving its damage output when it's not completely healthy.
