Super Mario RPG

List of Status Conditions and How to Heal

Status Conditions affect characters and enemies with mostly unfavorable effects in Super Mario RPG Remake. Read on and see a list of all status conditions, how to inflict them on enemies, and how to prevent and heal each one!

List of All Status Conditions and How to Inflict

Status Condition Effects / How to Inflict
Mute Icon Mute Cannot Perform Special Moves
Sleep Icon Sleep Cannot do any action, physical attacks received are canceled.
Sleepy Bomb
Poison Icon Poison Loses 10% of HP per turn.
Poison Mushroom
Fear Icon Fear Attack and Defense are cut in half.
Fright Bomb
Mushroom Cannot do any Action, but restores 10% HP per turn.
Scarecrow Cannot use items or do basic attacks.
Instant Death One hit reduces HP to 0, putting the character in a downed state.
Confusion Attacks anyone, be it an ally or a foe.

Mushroom, Scarecrow, and Instant Death can only be inflicted on Characters by enemies, while Confusion is found on some enemies automatically.

Only One Status Condition at a Time

A character or enemy cannot have multiple status conditions while in a fight. If a character or enemy is inflicted with another status condition while they already have one, the status condition with the higher priority will override the effects of the current status condition.

Status Condition Priority

Status Condition Priority
Silence < Sleep < Poison < Fear < Mushroom < Scarecrow

The table above shows that Scarecrow has the highest priority, while Silence has the least priority out of all the status conditions.

How to Heal and Prevent Status Conditions

Equip Accessories

Accessory Which Status Condition it Prevents
Trueform Pin Mushroom, Scarecrow
Safety Badge All Status Conditions
(except Instant Death)
Safety Ring All Status Conditions and
Instant Death

It's recommended to prevent status conditions with accessories. The Trueform Pin is a great accessory to equip to prevent transformation status conditions in the early game, while the Safety Badge or Safety Ring can prevent all status conditions.

List of All Accessories

Equip Special Armor

Armor Which Status Condition it Prevents
Lazy Shell (Armor) All Status Conditions
(except Instant Death)
Super Suit All Status Conditions
(except Instant Death)

The Lazy Shell and Super Suit can be equipped by all characters that can prevent status conditions. Though difficult to obtain, both are great armor and should be equipped once you get them!

List of All Armor

Recover with Healing Items and Special Moves

Items
Cleansing Juice, Freshen Up
Special Moves
Therapy, Group Hug

Use the Cleansing Juice to heal a status condition of one ally, or the Freshen Up item to heal status conditions of all allies.

Peach's special moves, Therapy and Group Hug, are great since it also restores HP while removing status conditions!

Wait Until the Effect Wears Off

All of the status conditions, except Instant Death, are removed after three turns. For status conditions that have minimal effects, such as Poison and Silence, it's better to wait until they are removed rather than wasting items and special moves to remove them.
