| Choose the Samurai (red) variant of Kusanagi when you first reach the Rift in the tutorial. If the Ninja variant was chosen at the beginning, the Samurai version will be unlocked after completing The Spirit Tree Village main mission. |

During the starting tutorial mission, The Fall of Edo Castle, you will choose between the Samurai or Ninja version of Kusanagi. Selecting the red Kusanagi gives you the Samurai version and also grants +1 Strength. You can still obtain the Ninja version later in the story.
The Fall of Edo Castle Walkthrough

In Antiquity, a later area in the game, you get Calamity's Seed main mission with The Spirit Tree Village objective. Completing this mission rewards you with the version of Kusanagi that you did not choose at the start.

Coat your weapon in Fire, unleashing a powerful blast on your next strike. This attack can also inflict burning damage over time on vulnerable enemies.
Kusanagi encourages a Samurai Martial Arts playstyle, enhancing the damage and Spirit Force gain of Martial Arts attacks while boosting Ki Pulse to synergize with your Arts usage.
Its skills deal strong Fire damage with burning effects over time and have solid AoE, making them easy to hit on bosses or multiple enemies at once.
