The Shogun's Journey is a new difficulty unlocked in New Game Plus, where enemies and bosses will be harder to defeat, and new enemies will show up in areas, dealing more damage and having more HP. In this mode, players retain their levels, stats, gear, skills, and overall progression as they take on more challenging content.
Completing missions and defeating the harder enemies and bosses gives you greater rewards and higher rarity in equipment.

On the map screen, players can switch between Heir’s Journey and the new Shogun’s Journey difficulty. Heir’s Journey preserves the previous world state, including all Shrines, Collectibles, and Battle Scrolls. Shogun’s Journey resets the story and Shrines, serving as the New Game Plus mode.
The two modes can be switched from the map menu at any time. After changing difficulties, you must fast travel to refresh the world and apply the selected journey.
The different eras that were explored in the first journey are locked in NG+ until they are reached again through the story. Some Shrines are locked in Shogun's Journey according to story progression, but most other Shrines you have unlocked previously will already be available for fast travel.
The entire map will be visible in Shogun's Journey; other points of interests will already marked according to your unlocks in Heir's Journey. As mentioned, some points of interests will remain locked until they are reached again, such as side quests.

The new Sudama's Blessing feature is available as soon as the player arrives at Escape From Hitokoto Slope the second time and prays at a Shrine. Sudama's Blessing lets you increase the drop rate of gear you set in exchange for Ochoko Cups.

Soul Core Transformation is another new feature and can also be accessed through Shrines. This feature allows players to change one of a Soul Core’s special effects in exchange for Soul Fragments. Select the effect you want to replace, then choose a new effect from the available options.
If there is no suitable replacement, refreshing is available to generate a new set of effects. Be careful when using the Refresh button. There is no confirmation prompt, and Soul Fragments will be consumed immediately upon pressing it.

New Divine tier weapons and armor are available in New Game Plus, a notch above Exotic gear. Divine rarity equipment is marked with green text, has four special effects, and may roll a random "Grace of …" Divine set bonus effect.

In Shogun's Journey, Lesser Crucibles, Crucible Wraiths, and Enemy Bases will be reset and can be cleared once again. Clearing the Crucible Spikes or Wraiths grants the player extra Spirit Force and strengthens their Guardian Spirit skill.

Complete Battle Scrolls to earn Scarlet Sands of Despair and Sands of Recollection. These two items can be used to restore Crucibles, so that you can clear them again, for the challenge and loot.

New Game Plus is available in Nioh 3! It lets players experience the game again from the beginning with all their gear, but this time it comes with a little bit more challenge.
In New Game Plus, referred to in-game as Shogun's Journey, enemies are harder to defeat, higher-tier weapons can be discovered, and bigger rewards are available after completing missions.

Heir's Journey is also available at all times after seeing the ending, and can be swapped to in the map menu. This allows the player to go through their first world, with all the Locations, Shrines, Battle Scrolls, and more that were unlocked during the first playthrough.
