The online Multiplayer and Co-Op unlocks once players reach the shrine before fighting against Yamagata Masakage, the first boss in the main story.
Note that the Summon Visitor is the first option that will be unlocked. The Become a Visitor and Expedition will only unlock after defeating Yamagata Masakage.
The Mission type of Co-Op focuses on completing a specific goal or objective as a team. In this mode, all players work together toward the same task, and everyone receives the same rewards and progress.
The Expedition type allows all players to explore the map together freely. In this mode, players can choose to complete side missions, investigate myths, fight bosses, or advance through the main story.
Players can play Co-Op in Nioh 3 by making sure they have internet connection and selecting the Co-Op option at a Shrine.

The Summon Visitor mode enables players to ask other players for help in completing certain mission objectives. The visitors will only help the host until they complete the set mission objective goal. Once done, the Co-Op session will end.
Note that players can only summon a visitor during missions. Additionally, the host can also offer Ochoko Cups to the visitor in return for all the help they provided.

The Become a Visitor mode lets you join others and help complete missions. You participate as the visitor, not the host. The Co-Op session ends when the mission is complete, teleporting you back to the Shrine you used.
The visitors cannot open doors or chests, as they are only accessible to the host. Visitors can obtain equipment based on their own strength rather than the level of the mission. They may also obtain a large amount of Glory and Ochoko Cups.

In Expedition mode, players can team up with other players to progress either the story or explore the whole map. The story progression will be based on the host's current progress.
All players may also roam around freely on their own, investigate myths, fight bosses, or complete side missions.

A Bloody Grave is a tombstone made out of a sword plunged into the ground with a red aura emitting from it. It is a tombstone of other players who died during their own playthrough.
Interact with the bloody grave to summon a Yokai version of the dead player called a Revenant. Players can defeat the Revenant to obtain the other players' equipment and items.

A Benevolent Grave is a tombstone made out of a sword plunged into the ground with a blue aura emitting from it. Players can offer an Ochoko Cup and summon the dead player from the tombstone, which can assist you in your battle.

In the Online Multiplayer of Nioh 3, only three players can join and play together. One player will be the Host, and the other two players can join in the Host's world.

There is no crossplay and cross-progression available in Nioh 3 for all platforms, namely the PS5 and PC.
