You can equip your desired skills by praying at a Shrine. Once you're there, navigate to the Skill Management menu to choose from your available skills. Take note that you'll only be able to access this menu once you discover a skill.

Each skill have a cost that is limited by your character's skill capacity. This limits the number of equippable skills, prompting players to choose the best skills for their build.
You can collect Warrior's Texts or Samurai's Texts to increase your character's skill capacity to accomodate more skills. This can be found through exploring the open world.

Skills grant passive effects that can be equipped and managed by players through praying at a shrine. These bonuses range from basic stat increases to giving new actions or moves depending on the skill's activation condition.
Skills are divided into three categories: Common, Samurai, and Ninja. Common skills take effect for both Samurai and Ninja styles, while Samurai and Ninja skills only activate for their corresponding style.

Most skills are obtained through looting chests or corpses, often found by exploring or by defeating enemies. Try to fully explore the game's regions to discover more skills!
