Ninja Style Recommended for Mobility
Ninja style is recommended for this encounter due to its superior mobility. Great Tengu has multiple AoE attacks with wind and lightning damage, which can inflict chip damage even when blocked.
Equip the Ninja skills Yokai Banisher and Evil-Dispelling Evade to purify Yokai Realms that hinder your Ki regeneration.
Use Fire Ninjutsu and Talismans
Great Tengu is weak to fire, making Ninjutsu such as Uncanny Flame, Shrapnel Bombs, and Fire Shot Talismans effective.
Fall Back During Red Attack and Grab
Great Tengu telegraphs both his red attack and grab by taking to the air and diving toward you. Fall back to widen the gap so you have more time to react with a Burst Break or sidestep.
Back Up When He Plants His Staff
Step back whenever Great Tengu plants his staff on the ground as he will use it to summon lightning around him. He will almost always do this AoE attack when transitioning to the Dark Realm.
Avoid Staying Directly Below Him
When Great Tengu leaps into the air, don't stand directly beneath him or you'll get caught by his wind magic. Rush in as he lands and get a few hits in.
This attack is able to deal chip damage through blocks unless deflected.
Farm Levels and Better Gear
If you're still struggling with Great Tengu, don't hesitate to farm some levels and equip better gear before trying again.

Summon Assistance from Acolytes
Summon an acolyte from nearby benevolent graves to serve as a distraction and help deal chip damage. You'll need Ochoko Cups to summon acolytes, which you can obtain by defeating revenants from bloody graves.
Use Talismans and Items for Buffs
Use talismans and items such as Power Talismans and Power Pills to boost your attack. Note that they do not stack and only refresh the duration of the attack buff.
Great Tengu has multiple attacks using wind damage. Use Windproof Amulets (purchased from Sudama) or Windstop Talismans during the fight if you have them available.
