How to Beat Demon of Envy

Nioh 3 - How to Beat Demon of Envy

Demon of Envy is a secret boss from Nioh 3 that is weak against Water. See how to beat Demon of Envy, as well as the weaknesses, drops, and location in this guide.

How to Beat Demon of Envy

Demon of Envy Boss Strategies

Use Water Attacks

The Demon of Envy is weak against Water damage. Sources of Water damage include:

  1. Martial Arts and weapons imbued with Water
  2. Uncanny Bubble Ninjutsu
  3. Water Familiar and Water Shot Talismans
  4. Summoning Seal from Demon of Pride's Soul Core

Level 100+ Recommended

The Demon of Envy is an optional boss with a much higher difficulty spike than other encounters at this point. The recommended level to face her comfortably is above level 100.

You can encounter her as soon as you reach the Anneibo Temple in Hachijo during the Heian Era (recommended level 73). The boss is quite difficult to fight this early, but it is still doable at around level 90+ with decent gear.

How to Level Up Fast: Amrita Farming Guide

Fall Back Before She Shifts to the Dark Realm

Just before the Demon of Envy drags you to the Dark Realm after you deplete her Ki, she will spew fire around her. Step back to avoid unnecessary damage.

Avoid Grab Attack by Walking Backward

Her grab attack can easily be avoid by simply walking backward, provided there is some distance between you. This allows you to save your Ki for when you counterattack.

Jump Over Fire Attacks

Don't forget that you can jump over some of her attacks, including the ring of fire that grows outward and the running trails of fire on the ground.

Dive Attack Is Easily Punishable

The Demon of Envy's dive attack is highly telegraphed as she leaps into the air. Once you nail the timing for the dodge or deflect, you have a lengthy window to counterattack.

Stack Water Resistance

Look through your inventory and equip gear that have Water Resistance, but don't sacrifice too much base defense. High defense remains more important for survivability.

Secure with Living Artifact

Keep your Living Artifact ready to secure the kill during the second half of the fight when the boss becomes more aggressive. You're invulnerable while in this state but you must still dodge or block because sustaining damage shortens its duration.

You also have unlimited Ki while Living Artifact is active. Use this to spam your most potent Martial Arts.

Summon Assistance from Acolytes

Summon an acolyte from nearby benevolent graves to serve as a distraction and help deal chip damage. You'll need Ochoko Cups to summon acolytes, which you can obtain by defeating revenants from bloody graves.

Use Talismans and Items for Buffs

Use talismans and items such as Power Talismans and Power Pills to boost your attack. Note that they do not stack and only refresh the duration of the attack buff.

You can also use the talismans from Soul Cores listed below to give you an advantage.
