This weapon is excellent for those who want to control Barret and unleash attack after attack with him. On top of that, it has the highest attack stat of all of his weapons. Keep in mind that this is a close ranged weapon though, so it can be a bit harder to use.
Right off the bat, you should get the ATB Charge Rate upgrade, followed by the attack power upgrades. From there, having some extra materia slots and magic attack will allow Barret to attack at a range a bit more easily, when needed. Your remaining SP can be spent on skills that boost critical hit rate or allow for HP recovery.
