This weapon is best utilized by first getting all of the elemental damage related upgrades, then pairing the elemental materia and magic materia to exploit enemy weaknesses.
Since this is a close ranged weapon, picking up the MP boosts/MP regen and extra materia slots will allow Barret to use magic when he needs to attack from a range. After picking up these upgrades, max out his attack and magic attack stats by unlocking the remaining weapon upgrades.
