Substitute Pilot For Armored Gundams

Amuro Ray is a pilot who finds many different uses.

His best use outside of his signature MS is as a substitute pilot for Gundam-Type Armored units, since he grants a 12% max HP buff to Armored units, and two 8% stacking resistance buffs on taking damage that each max out at 40%. These stacking buffs are granted to Heavy Armor and Gundam-Type units.

Armored Gundam-Type units are able to get all 3 buffs since the Heavy Armor tag can also be found in all Armored units.

Grants Ranged Sense To Psycho-Frame Type Units

Another way to use this version of Amuro Ray is to field him in a mobile suit with the Psycho-Frame Type unit category tag, since he grants these units a stacking 15% ranged sense buff that maxes out at 150%.

Second Neo Zeon War and White Mobile Suit units also get 46% ranged sense each. That said, try to use Amuro in a Psycho-Frame Type MS that also falls under at least one of these 2 tags. Even then, you may find Amuro to be a lackluster DPS pilot since most meta DPS pilots grant 300% or more ranged sense.

Conditional Bonuses Against Rival Units

When paired with Protagonist Units, Amuro grants the MS 48% accuracy against Rival Units. More importantly, EFF-Affiliated units get 184% ranged sense against Rival Units. Assuming you've paired Amuro with a Psycho-Frame Type unit, that's over 300% ranged sense against Rival Units, but the fact that it's a situational buff limits its value.

Overall, Amuro is an okay substitute pilot for units that are able to reap its key buffs and then some. However, his true value is shown when he is paired with his signature MS, the Nu HWS, which we'll discuss more in the section below.

The Nu Gundam HWS is able to effectively make use of all the buffs Amuro Ray brings to the table. Amuro improves this MS's firepower by granting it 12% accuracy and 242% ranged sense. He also bolsters this unit's defense by granting it up to 80% resistance and 12% max HP.

Amuro further improves the Nu Gundam's anti-Rival Unit capabilities by granting it 184% more ranged sense and 48% more accuracy against targets who fall under this unit category.

Because most other substitute pilots sacrifice either offense for defense or vice versa, you really want Amuro Ray if you want the HWS performing at the highest level.
