You can purchase keys before battle, or if you have them in the convoy, access them from Byleth.

If you have a Thief, of Assassin in your party, you can have them open up the chests using the Locktouch Ability.

Lampos Shield

A shield that negates any anti-cavalry damage and adds +3 Prt with 0 Wt. Even if there are very few anti-cavalry enemies, it's worth keeping for the extra protection at the cost of no weight, ensuring mobility for cavalry or any other fast mover.

Wooden Platform is Set on Fire

After defeating Bernadetta, or whoevers is manning the Ballista, Edelgard will set the whole hill on fire. Be sure that you can leave the area right away.

Chapter 17 (Golden Deers) - Tips and Tricks

Focus on One House at a Time

No doubt that everyone from Garreg Mach has grown stronger over the five years, you should not underestimate them. You can attack Black Eagles first before Dimitri sends reinforcements.

Protect Your Healers

You have to prepare for a huge amount of damage dealt to your allies. Because surprise attacks or reinforcements could come anytime, it is important that you do not leave your healers in a vulnerable spot.

Stock Up on Vulneraries or Concoctions

If your healers are not quite strong enough, it is good to have each ally hold a Vulnerary or Concoction. It is better to stay together and stay on defense than to rush out and lose immediately.
