1 | Select Offline Game on the top Menu screen OR Bring up the Friends menu in-game. Note: Use shoulder buttons (L, R) to switch between online and offline on the Menu screen! |
2 | Connect the amount of controllers you need. |
3 | Press the button shown on screen to join. If you're still on the Menu screen, press "Start Game". |
4 | You'll either be on the Camp screen or be moved there when you press "Start Game". |
5 | Select a Mission to go. Any player can invite others to their unlocked Missions, even if that player hasn't made it that far yet. |
The short and simple answer is no!
Like seen on the screenshot above, all health bars are displayed on the screen and you will be forced to stay in the same area as your friends.
With a function the game calles Popping, you'll automatically be teleported to the leading player if you stray too far from each other.
When you play together, everyone will get loot reserved specifically to them.
You don't have to worry about that cousin who always hoards the rewards while you do all the hard work!
The difficulty will scale depending on the size of your party. You can see the suggested Team Power when you select Missions, so find that sweet spot between challenge and punishment together!

While it requires Online subscriptions, Online will make it easier to play with friends who live far from your or are in different timezones.
