Combat Summary | |
・Maelstrom throws explosive test subjects from its head. Be careful of these living bombs ・Maelstrom will contaminate and destroy its surroundings by vomiting or spitting bodily fluids. You must move quickly to evade ・Maelstrom can make loud noises that push everything away. Take care not to get caught in the blast. |
Maelstrom can be found and fought in Altess Levoire. Try to find their weaknesses before attacking!
You will be encountering another variation of Maelstrom again during the Abyss Levoire main mission. This Maelstrome is much stronger and has more small weak points than its former counterpart.
Maelstrom Strategy |
---|
|
Maelstrom has three weak points, represented by small orange blobs. Attacking these with your gun is a must in order to incapacitate it.
After attacking its three weak points, you can target its main weak point in the center and deal heavy damage.
Also this is just the gist of the battle, attack the small weak points first and then attack the large one. Rinse and repeat.
Once in a while, Maelstrom will throw orbs at you. These orbs actualy contain smaller Naytibas that explode upon contact.
Defeating these will net you ammo for your gun, so if you are running low on ammo, consider fighting these smaller Naytibas.
Every attack Maelstrom has can be avoided by running or doing a Parry. You can also try to perform a Perfect Parry but you can't attack with Eve's blade, so timing your parries to be perfect isn't really necessary for this battle.
Before starting the battle with Maelstrom, it is highly recommended that you unlock Enhanced Slugs in the Drone Upgrade Module.
You can unlock this by going to the nearest Repair Console or by talking to Lily in Xion.
You can also unlock the Shotgun Shell Magazine upgrade from the module. This will enable Eve to fire Shotgun shells from her gun.
Shotgun deals more damage than the regular Slug but it isn't continuous in attack, this will be useful when attacking Maelstrom's large weak point once incapacitated.

This attack will track you down although its execution is pretty slow so it won't be really that hard to avoid.
Additionally, you can opt to shoot the balls before it lands so you won't have to deal with avoiding it anymore.

How to Counter | This attack does not inflict damage |
Surprisingly, the animation may look like it will inflict heavy damage to you but this attack will only push you backwards and you will not suffer any damage.
However, do note that if there are any Test Subject Naytibas on the ground, they will explode so it is best to avoid them whenever possible during this attack.

Attack these enemies so you can recharge your ammo.
