Once the flood in the Commercial District is gone, go down a few floors beneath and head to the liquor shop to find Baran. Talk to him to initiate the quest.

Complete Altess Levoire

To start the End of the Nightmare side quest, you must have completed the main mission, Altess Levoire.

Aside from progressing the main story and completing Altess Levoire, you also have to complete the prerequisite quest Oblivion to proceed with End of the Nightmare!

End of the Nightmare Sidequest Objectives

Search for Baran's Comrades

To find Baran's comrades, head 1 floor beneath your current location (head to the with the statue) then use the rope to make a shortcut straight to your destination.

Should You Give the Diary to Baran?

Giving him the Diary Makes Him Hysterical

If you give Baran the diary, he'll find out that his partners has survived the diving expedition and is waiting for his help. His partners then run out of supply and curses him until their death which scares Baran and makes him depressed even further.

He Will Be Found Dead at the Same Location

After a few time have passed, returning to the area reveals Baran's corpse at the same location you find him which implies suicide after he found out the truth.

Not Giving him the Diary Eases his Mind

Hiding the Diary from Baran will make him calm down and “end the nightmare”. He then takes the Angel, ignorant of his partner's last moments.
