Stellar Blade can be considered a Souls-like game depending on which difficulty mode you play in. Read on for more information about Stellar Blade, the difficulty modes that make Stellar Blade feel like a Souls-like, and what a Souls-like game is.
When you first start Stellar Blade, you can choose between Story Mode and Normal Mode. The Normal difficulty of Stellar Blade has a Souls-like feel to the gameplay in terms of its difficulty.
Story Mode, on the other hand, allows you to more easily get through the game. If you're new to Souls-like games, this is a good place to start. It has some elements that are reminiscent of Souls-likes especially when dealing with difficult enemies, but you'll die much less frequently in this difficulty.
You can change the difficulty at any time through the settings. If Normal Mode is giving you a hard time, you can always switch to Story Mode.
However, switching difficulties makes the game reset to your last save point. Make sure to only change difficulties after saving if you don't want to accidentally lose any progress.
All Difficulty Settings Explained
Once you finish the game, you unlock Hard Mode, which is the highest difficulty available in the game. Stellar Blade's Hard Mode definitely feels like a Souls-like game and is great for those who want more of a challenge.
When you die during the game, you will return to the last camp you visited without losing any items or any progress. This makes dying less punishing when you're fighting a difficult enemy or boss.
Stellar Blade's base gameplay feels more to action-adventure games like Bayonetta than Souls games like Dark Souls and Elden Ring. However, in terms of the difficulty, Stellar Blade's Normal and Hard Modes do feel similar to those in the Souls-like genre.
Souls-like games are best known for being very difficult to get through, usually involving dying several times before successfully beating an enemy and progressing through the story.
Enemies in Souls-like games are usually fast and unforgiving, with bosses having complex movesets and attack patterns that you'll need to learn so you can beat them effectively and progress through the game.
