This is a new feature added in The Last of Us Part II, to give more options to people with limitations, so they can have a better and more immersive experience, depending on their needs.
You can fully customize and remap every single button available on your controller in the Alternate Controls Menu. This feature will also allow you to access an expandable option where you can choose to rapidly press or hold down the button in cases where it is needed, giving you full control on how you would like to play the game with your controller.
You can access this by going to the Options Menu and selecting Accessibility, then Alternate Controls.
A Quick Turn can be executed by pressing down on your left analog stick and then pressing the X button. The Quick Turn is an effective trick that you can do to quickly turn your camera 180 degrees.
While Sprinting, you can hold down the circle button to execute a headfirst slide allowing you to cross tight spaces without having to slowly crawl through. This can be extremely useful when trying to escape from enemies chasing you.
Holding the R1 button while on a rope locks down your position allowing you to move your left stick to swing using the rope. Some areas will require you to do this to be able to progress, so be sure to use this technique correctly whenever it is needed.
