I wish every dialogue choice had an effect on the story, even if it was just something tiny like extra dialogue later on in the game

THIS IS GREAT!! I won't have to second guess the selection effect. it's pretty much well-laid out and I don't want to pick a choice that would bring nothing into fruition.

I think Ch 3 and 8 side quests have an impact as well. I chose all the options for Aerith using chapter select, while skipping both 3 and 8 side quests and Tifa still showed up.

It is note worthy for Barret scene, skip all quests in chapter 3 and only play through the chapter . Only do scrap Bolivourd . Then only talk to chadley; enter seventh heaven option now appears do it. Then follow the chapter into Johnny scene. And finish the chapter into 4. Chap 8 only do the missing kids no quests. Only talk to Oates 2 times . Then Rude, finish chapter. Guide is perfect for 9. After I hit sewers went to 14; there’s Barret. I was mean 2 both girls including Aeriths flower in 2

You should also add that the sidequests you do in Chapter 3 and 8 does affect things as well. Learn this the hard way when I tried to get her scene after doing 0 quests to get her bad dress.
