Ocean Floor Guide: How to Dive Underwater?

Add to Watchlist

Dragon Quest 1 and 2 - Ocean Floor

The Ocean Floor is a new explorable region in Dragon Quest 2 HD-2D Remake (DQ2), and you’ll need to learn how to dive before you can reach it. Learn how to dive to the ocean floor, when it unlocks, and check out every location you can visit underwater!

How to Dive in the Ocean Floor

Dive in Blue Ocean Areas in the Map

Ship Bubble

You can only dive in parts of the ocean marked in dark blue on the world map. Sail to any dark blue area and hold down the descend button to dive and the ascend button to return to the surface.

Dive Deeper If You Spot Blue Areas Underwater

Northern Seabed

Once you’re underwater, you’ll notice deeper zones marked by even darker blue sections on the seafloor map. These areas let you dive further down using the same controls as regular diving.

You Can Go Up and Down to Avoid Rocky Areas

While exploring the ocean floor, you can freely move upward or downward. This lets you pass over rocky terrain and reach otherwise blocked paths.

These controls also matter when collecting deep sea Sparkly Spots, so keep them in mind as you explore.

When Can You Go to the Ocean Floor?

Get Access to the Ship to Explore the Ocean Surface

The ship can be received as a reward for helping a NPC in trouble with a monster in Rippleport. After helping them with the monster, talk to the old man by the port to receive your ship.

How to Unlock and Get the Ship

Obtain Lorelei's Harp To Dive Into the Ocean

Mermaid

You unlock diving by obtaining Lorelei's Harp while traveling from Mersea to the Mermaid Sanctuary during the story.

Once you receive it, your ship gains the ability to dive automatically, just continue progressing naturally to reach this point.

How to Get Lorelei's Harp and Effects

Fixing Lorelei's Harp to Dive Deeper Into the Ocean Floor

The Deep Sea Map is an even lower layer beneath the regular ocean floor. You can only reach it after fixing Lorelei's Harp.

Talk to the Mermaid Queen in Mersea after obtaining both the Pearl Earring and the Letter in a Bottle to upgrade the harp and access the deeper region of the ocean floor.

All Ocean Floor Locations

Mermaid Sanctuary, Mersea, and the Sunken Ship

Mersea Square

The Mermaid Sanctuary, Mersea, and the Sunken Ship are all mandatory locations tied to the main story, so you won’t miss them. Completing everything here rewards you with the Magic Key.

Den of Iniquity

Mariella

The Den of Iniquity is another main story location, unlocked after you get the Magic Key. This is where you’ll find Mariella, the boss ruling over the Ocean Floor.

Ghost Ship

The Ghost Ship drifts constantly underwater and won’t appear on the world map. However, when you get close enough, a small icon will show on the minimap in the top-right corner of your screen.

The Ghost Ship also holds one of the 7 Living Memories as a treasure.

Rubiss Shrine
