Zhang Rang's single sword slash is easier to parry, since it has a long windup. His slash combo should be blocked or avoided, since it's quick and unpredictable.
Sword Thrust
Zhang Rang charges up and quickly thrusts forward. This attack is easily parried with the right timing.
Float Into Spinning Slash
Zhang Rang floats into the air, then performs a spinning slash at you. This can be parried to make him stumble.

Zhang Rang can summon lightning balls that can be parried for a good boost to your Spirit gauge.
Charged Lightning Strike
Zhang Rang gathers lightning, then releases a powerful AoE blast of lightning all around him. This is a dangerous move, so make sure to back off when you see lightning gather.
Lightning Wave
Zhang Rang will send a vertical wave of lightning at you. The path of the wave is easily telegraphed on the ground, so it is easy to dodge away from it.

Critical Thrust
Zhang Rang glows red, readies his blade, then thrusts at you. This can be parried with a perfect deflect, then he will be left defenseless.
How to Beat Zhang Rang (General Tips)
Prioritize the Clones
Zhang Rang's main body will be buffed when his clones are out, and fighting his real body will be more difficult with clones attacking you, so focus on defeating all his clones first.
Defeat Farther Away Clones First
Run for the clones farthest away from the center, so coax the other clones into attacking you with lightning balls, which hurt considerably less than sword attacks.
Fill Up Spirit Gauge with Lightning Balls
The clones will send a lot of lightning balls at you, so make good use of them by deflecting them for a good Spirit Gauge increase.
Use Spirit Attacks for Invincibility Frames
It's recommended to always use Spirit Attacks whenever you deflect an attack and an enemy is vulnerable. The animation leaves you invulnerable for a short while, and increases your Spirit gauge as well.
