Description |
The Chang Gui is a demon resembling a cross between a human and a tiger. They are also called "tiger-slain" in reference to a Chinese lore in which humans devoured by tigers would become spirits that served the tiger, luring more victims to it and destroying hunters' traps. This legend is referenced in a Chengyu idiom about assisting evildoers. Another legend states that Chang Gui are not spirits, but demons that result from the fusion of the victim's spirit with the animal. |
・Upward Strike ・Charge Attack ・Slam Attack ・Leap Slash ・Flurry Attack |
Changgui raises its claws and then quickly strikes its target.
Changgui bows its head and then suddenly moves forward to attack its target.
Changgui raises its front legs to slam the ground.
Changgui leaps forward before slashing its target using one of its front paws.
Changgui unleashes a flurry of slashes and ends it with a random attack from its moveset.
Changgui will momentarily stand using its hind legs and then charge forward toward its target.
Using fatal strikes can remove a chunk of a Changgui's health bar. For example, if you can sneak behind a Changgui before engaging in combat, you can deal a huge amount of damage right from the get-go. After using a sneak attack, you can also unleash a series of attacks before the Changgui actually attacks you.
When you have just started playing the game, it can be difficult to properly time your parries against Changgui's normal attacks. Hence, it is advisable for beginners to dodge instead of parrying.
When you encounter it in the mission The Village of Calamity, it is not recommended to kill it traditionally due to its high morale. While it is possible to kill it at the start of the game, it can quickly finish you off with just 2 to 3 attacks.
If you ever need to recover your health, you can run towards the stone staircase near the first Marking Flag in the game as the Changgui cannot attack you when you are on it. You can wait on the staircase until the Changgui attacks your companion. Then, land a few attacks before returning to the staircase.
You can position yourself near the flames for the Changgui to go into it and receive some fire damage. Doing this repeatedly will eventually lower the Changgui's health bar low enough for you to easily kill it.
