This is a guide to elemental phases in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. Read on to learn about elemental phases and elemental virtues and how the elemental phase magic damage system works.
List of Contents
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty has a rock-paper-scissor-style magic damage system that involves the 5 Elemental Phases: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water. Each element has an element that it's weak against and an element it's strong against.
In the chart above, the elements are strong against the element the arrow is pointing to (and conversely, the element is resisted in the opposite direction). Put into words, this is how each element counters each other:
Wood | ▶︎ | Earth |
Earth | ▶︎ | Water |
Water | ▶︎ | Fire |
Fire | ▶︎ | Metal |
Metal | ▶︎ | Wood |
This magic damage system can be utilized offensively with the use of Wizardry Spells, and defensively by wearing the appropriate armor and leveling the corresponding Elemental Virtue.
When fighting an enemy, you'll have to figure out their elemental affinity. If they're using Fire attacks, that means they likely have Fire affinity; you'll do more damage with Water Wizardry Spells, and you'll resist their attacks with Water affinity armor and having a high Water Virtue stat.
On the other hand, your Metal attacks will deal less damage against that Fire enemy, and if you're wearing Metal armor or have a high Metal Virtue stat, you'll receive more damage from their Fire attacks.
The Wood Phase is weak to Fire and strong against Earth. Lightning attacks fall under the Wood Phase.
The Wood Virtue increases Max HP, Spirit Defense, Spell Duration, and Wood Affinity.

The Water Phase is strong against Fire and weak against Earth. Ice attacks fall under the Water Phase.
The Water Virtue increases HP, Stealth, Water Affinity, and decreases Spirit Consumption Rate for Deflect.
List of Water Phase Spells
The Fire Phase is weak to Water and strong against Metal.
The Fire Virtue increases HP, Spirit Gain Rate for Attacking, Fire Affinity, and decreases Spirit Consumption Rate for Martial Arts.
List of Fire Phase Spells
The Metal Phase is weak to Fire and strong against Wood. Toxin (Poison) attacks fall under the Metal Phase.
The Metal Virtue increases HP, Spirit Stability, Metal Affinity, and decreases Spirit Consumption Rate for Wizardry Spells.
List of Metal Phase Spells
The Elemental Phases determine how much magic damage you and your enemies deal, and involves weaknesses and resistances.
This only affects magic damage, which can only be dealt with Wizardry Spells; melee damage from your weapons are affected by Elemental Virtues, but have nothing to do with Elemental Phases.
The Elemental Phase Magic Damage System is a different system from the Elemental Virtue System, though they are still related. While the Elemental Phases are more similar to elements/types in other games, Elemental Virtues are closer to stats like Attack, Defense or Endurance from other games, just a bit more complicated.
Each Virtue can be leveled up, and leveling up increases a bunch of statistics, including the Phase Affinity for that element.
Wizardry Spells from an element also require a certain Virtue level for that element. In a battle against a Metal Affinity Enemy, you won't be able to utilize the Phase System with Fire Wizardry Spells if you haven't leveled up your Fire Virtue enough.
