| ① | Create your character after the opening cutscene. |

| ② | Defeat any enemies you encounter as you complete the on-screen tutorials. |
| ③ | Head to the house after defeating the enemy with Morale Rank 3 and open the chest to get the Polearm Podao. |
| ④ | Exit the house and continue on the path outside and raise the first Battle Flag. |
| ① | After raising the first Battle Flag, head up the stairs to defeat the enemy on the ledge. |

| ② | Drop down and climb up the next ledge where you can raise the first Marking Flag. |
| ③ | Continue jumping to the next ledges and you will reach an area where you have to defeat a few enemies. |
| ④ | After defeating the enemies, there will be another area where you can raise a second Marking Flag. |
| ① | After raising the second Marking Flag, head up the stairs where you can raise the second Battle Flag. |

| ① | After raising the second Battle Flag, drop down and defeat the 3 enemies in the area. |

| ② | Head up the path and continue walking up the stairs until you reach the area where you can raise a third Marking Flag. You will encounter enemies along the way so be prepared to fight. |
| ① | Continue up the path and you should find an enemy with Morale Rank 9. Defeat this enemy then raise the third Battle Flag. |

Observe the enemy you are fighting and anticipate their attacks for a well-timed deflect. Deflecting is essentially parrying and can be done by pressing Circle at the right time.
Should deflecting attacks prove too difficult, you may opt to block incoming attacks instead. Critical Blows cannot be blocked but will instead do reduced damage.
As you progress through a level, make sure to always raise flags you encounter whether it be a Battle Flag or Marking Flag. Marking Flags will raise your Fortitude Rank as well as restore HP and remove any status effects.
Battle Flags lets you access the Battle Flag menu in addition to restoring HP, Dragon's Cure Pot charges, and raising your Fortitude Level.
Martial Arts are special abilities that allow you to break the enemy's guard at the cost of expending Spirit. Should you use this too frequently, you are at risk of losing all your Spirit and being in a vulnerable state.
There will be instances where Zhang Liang will attack with a secret move after getting off his normal attacks. Don't force yourself to get multiple attacks on him and instead take your time, backing off after 1 or 2 hits.
Block and deflect Zhang Liang's attacks to reduce his gauge until you've successfully beat him.
