Zhang Jiao's location changes each time you retry the side mission. Xun Yun, your companion, will provide clues to let you know if Zhang Jiao is close or far from your location.
There are at least 4 possible locations where you can find Zhang Jiao at the basement area of the side mission. See the table below to learn how to reach the locations.
| ① | Climb down on the ladder on the left of the second Battle Flag. |

| ② | Descend on the second ladder and on the ledge. |
| ③ | Head left and climb the wall with white paint on it. |
| ④ | Head right and climb the wall with white paint on it. Climb another wall with white paint to find Zhang Jiao sitting on top of it. Note: If Zhang Jiao is not in this location, proceed with the second possible location. |
| ① | Starting from the first possible location, drop down from the ledge to the bottom of the area. Note: You will receive a small amount of fall damage if you drop down from the high ledge. |

| ② | Head right from the entryway then turn left. |
| ③ | Head right and turn left. Climb the ledge on the left side and go inside the entryway. |
| ④ | Turn right and head straight across the path to find Zhang Jiao at the end of the corner. Note: If Zhang Jiao is not in this location, proceed with the third possible location. |
| ① | From the second possible location, head left into the small entryway and follow the path across to find Zhang Jiao at the end of the corner. Note: If Zhang Jiao is not in this location, proceed with the fourth possible location. |

| ① | You can find the first Battle Flag at the starting point. It has already been activated and is unmissable. |

| ① | Go straight from the starting point and enter the broken wall on the left side. |

| ② | Head straight and turn left around the small wooden house to find the first Marking Flag inside. |
| ① | Exit the area and head to the broken wall across the path to find the second Battle Flag in the area. |

| ① | Climb down the ladder on the left of the second Battle Flag. |

| ② | Descend on the second set of ladder and head right. |
| ③ | Head left down the stairs and use the ladder to go down to the area. |
| ④ | Climb up the next set of ladders across the area. Climb up the stairs to reach the second Marking Flag at the right side of the area. Optional: Open the treasure chest on the opposite side of the second Marking Flag to obtain the Dragon Vein Essence. |
Dragon Vein Essence is an item that permanently increases the number of recovery potions you have. You can find the treasure chest containing it at the same area where you can find the second Marking Flag.
Once you have it, open the menu and select the item from the Supplies to use it.
Planting Marking Flag is one of the methods that you can use to increase your Morale rank. Increasing your Morale ranks lets you deal more damage and receive less damage from enemies.
