Wo Long has a gauge called the Spirit Gauge, and is an integral part of combat in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty
The gauge accumulates in the right (positive) when attacking an enemy, and in the left (negative) when getting attacked or guarding against attacks. The positive gauge can be used to perform Wizardry Spells and Martial Arts, if the negative gauge accumulates, you won't be able to move and you'll be attacked without the option to guard them.
Enemies also have a gauge which is found under their HP bar. Keep track of the opponent's gauge, and perform a fatal strike if an opportunity rises.
Normal Attacks | Attacking enemies with normal attacks increase your Spirit Gauge. |

Deflecting Attacks | Successfully deflecting enemy attacks increases your Spirit and decreases the enemy's. |
Fatal Strike | Performing Fatal Strikes restores your negative Spirit Gauge. |
Spirit Gauge is restored while performing normal attacks on enemies, or successfully deflecting their attacks. Performing Fatal Strikes will reset your Spirit Gauge no matter how much it has decreased.
You can reduce the enemy's Spirit Gauge by deflecting their Critical Blows. This makes it easier to use Spirit Attacks against them.
Simply getting attacked or guarding against an attack decreases the Spirit Gauge. This applies both to you and the enemy.
By pressing the O Button, you can deflect or dodge enemy attacks. However, evading unnecessarily also depletes your Spirit Gauge.
Casting Wizardry Spells consume your Spirit Gauge depending on the spell performed.
Performing Spirit Attacks also consumes your Spirit Gauge. Using Spirit Attacks completely depletes your spirit gauge, but the higher the Spirit Gauge, the stronger your next Spirit Attack is.
Using Spirit Attacks can inflict high damage to the enemy's spirit gauge and depleting theirs allows you to perform a Fatal Strike to them.
Using Martial Arts consumes your Spirit Gauge and the consumption varies depending on the Martial Art used, and from weapon to weapon.
