If you collect all runes you can unlock a secret level. It's in a secret are cuz you'll use it to unlock another secret area lol.

That's a given. You should learn how to time your attacks so who would not get close as you attack a target.
Yep. When you spam attacks with a weapon that has a slow attack rate, you'll end up so close to the target.
Glaive, Spear, or a knife is good to use. And don't spam the attack button or you'll get under him. Just time each attack so you can stay in your position while he plants mines.
